The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me
Sale Price: $7.07

Brand New have specialized in pain ever since the pop-punk emo-rage of their 2001 debut release Your Favorite Weapon. But they've outdone themselves on The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me. If the songs on Weapon were paper cuts, the ones here are gaping chainsaw wounds, full of seismic, howling agony. The moody rumbles of 2003's Deja Entendu were pointing here, but this is something else, with Mogwai-level dynamic range and tracks that careen from introspection to fury and back again. Lyrically, lead singer Jesse Lacey's words remain excruciating and harrowing things, but that's nothing new. It's the music propping them up which gives this effort such depth and punch. "Degausser" starts so innocently, then uses a bridge augmented with a bitter children's chorus straight out of The Wall as a lead in to Lacey's bitter refrain of "I'll never say anything right." Then there's the nearly 8-minute "Limousine (MS Rebridge)," epic, and epically sad, constantly threatening to descend into pure cacophony (and eventually succeeding). Repeated listens will tune your ear to the band's still-intact pop sense (especially on "Not the Sun" and "The Archers Bows Have Broken"), which keeps the record lively and unpredictable, and away from becoming a depressing, head-in-the-oven mope. Brand New went through three years of intense recording sessions to make it happen, but it was worth the effort. --Matthew Cooke

Enterprise [Original TV Soundtrack]
Sale Price: $10.54

Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek franchise now encompasses five television series, a cartoon show, 10 feature films, an IMAX presentation, and an interactive Las Vegas spectacular--not bad for a much-mocked '60s TV show its network discarded after barely three seasons. With Enterprise, the prequel that follows the first starship Enterprise on her original missions, composer and previous ST series vet Dennis McCarthy takes the saga's musical reins, instantly imbuing it with a familiar, if more dignified and restrained, sense of discovery and adventure with his pastoral "New Enterprise" and "New Horizons" themes. If his "Archer's Theme" briefly strays into overwrought rock heroics, the composer's edgy, rhythmic Klingon cues add a sense of almost palpable danger to the soundtrack. Tense, unusually brooding, and marvelously atmospheric, McCarthy's scoring here harks back to the best of Goldsmith's ST film work. "The Rescue" even recalls the powerfully dramatic brass writing of Herrmann in his prime. Another sure sign of the show's pop culture stature: it now has its own bona fide Diane Warren overwrought pop ballad theme, "Where My Heart Will Take Me" (in both its TV version and an extended album mix here) by Russell Watson. Expanded PC media features include a mock Enterprise computer interface containing a performance video of Watson's song and cast and character bios/profiles. --Jerry McCulley

Hawk the Slayer
Sale Price: $16.98
|
|
|
Among its many dubious distinctions, Hawk the Slayer is the only sword-and-sorcery movie to feature Silly-String® as a medieval weapon! This splendidly wretched British fantasy also boasts such magical wonders as an automatic fast-action crossbow and an archer who shoots instantly replenished arrows in rapid succession, never missing his target! At the lowest ebb of his career, Jack Palance is gleefully hammy as Voltan, the disfigured (i.e., irredeemably evil) elder brother of Hawk (John Terry), who swears vengeance after Voltan kills their father, kidnaps a virginal abbess (Annette Crosbie), and threatens a nunnery for ransom. Add an ultracheesy '80s soundtrack (imagine Rick Wakeman playing roller disco) and some respectable British thespians (Patrick Magee, Roy Kinnear, Harry Andrews), and you've got a poor man's Willow with a dash of Krull, laughably awful and surprisingly entertaining. Fully aware of its own low-budget absurdity, Hawk the Slayer is a Bad Movie classic, guaranteed to satisfy connoisseurs of garbage. (Trivia note: Terry survived his titular heroics and was guest-starring on the popular TV series 24 when this DVD was released in late 2002.) --Jeff Shannon
It's a wild sword-and-sorcery adventure in which rival siblings seek "the Power," a magical flying sword that will give them supernatural powers. Jack Palance, John Terry, Patrick Magee, Harry Andrews and Ferdy Mayne star. 90 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital stereo; theatrical trailer; photo gallery.

'It' Plus Clara Bow: Discovering the "It" Girl
Sale Price: $16.95
|
|
|
It is famous for turning cutie-pie Clara Bow into, as critic David Thomson described her, "the first mass-market sex symbol." Somewhat overshadowed by this phenomenon is the fact that It is also a terrifically entertaining picture, an effortless cruise through the manners and morals of the flapper era. Bow plays a shopgirl who sets her saucer eyes on her boss (Antonio Moreno); it isn't terribly hard to land him, since she possesses dazzle, charm, spunk... in a word, "It." And if we're still not sure what "It" is, there's a moment of high camp hilarity when matronly author Elinor Glyn, who penned the original definition of "It," strides through the movie and delivers herself of its meaning. Actually, Bow's delightful performance does more to define "It" than anything else, and her unabashed sexiness (which didn't play well after sound came in) clearly sets the future course for Marilyn Monroe and Madonna. --Robert Horton
The quintessential flapper clara bow is captured at the height of her charm in this bubbly fable of a new york shopgirl who hunts the heart of a young millionaire. Studio: Kino International Release Date: 02/20/2001 Starring: Clara Bow Run time: 72 minutes Director: Clarence Badger

More Info On Archer Bow:

As happy as a kid with my selfmade bow and arrow, find out how
Did you ever dream about the living in the time of the wild west, the time of the cowboys and indians? Well i did when i was a little boy, and when me and my friends where playing cowboy and indian, i was always an indian warrior or chief, hunting the ‘cowboys' down with my bow and arrow. Even when i was all grown up, i'd still dream secretly about hunting down cowboys, and altough this isn't possible, i wanted to do something with a bow and arrow.
Now you can buy a bow brandnew and pay alot of money for it, or the wayi wanted to do it: YOURSELF. After some searching on the net i found this great book called: Make Your Own Bow And Arrow, if your interested you can find it at: www.makebowandarrow.com. This book was exactly what i was looking for, meaning it has clear instructions which are easy to follow step by step, and best of all the materials are mostly free or cost pennies to the dollar.
After a little experimenting i was able to make myself a really proper bow and set of arrows to go with it. I must admit i was a bit sceptical at first if i could pull it off and that it wasn't just another ebook with no real content just some terms no body understands, an empty shell basicly, you probably know what i'm talking about if you have ever bought an ebook or other digital product online.
Well i can only say that if i can do it using this guide, anyone can because i was never good at crafts or any other things which meant hand labour. But i did it and i'm so proud of it that i tought i'll wright an article about it. Last month i went practice for the first time and everything went really well. For the last four weekends i have been practicing and i am so confident with my skills that next weekend me and three buddy's of mine are going hunting, they are taking their guns and i am taking my selfmade bow and arrows.
I am as happy as a little kid that is going to a toystore for the first time. Ok so my conclusion is that for the first time in my life i'm 8 years old again during the weekends shooting with my own bow and arrow. I hope you guys enjoyed the story of a big little kid with a dream J.
