The popularity of the crossbow for hunting purposes is really on the rise. Bow hunting in general is on the rise all across America. Over the years there has been a huge debate on whether or not crossbows should be allowed during archery season. There are compound bow users and traditional bow users that are dead set against the use of crossbows. I have debated this issue with several of them and the reasoning behind their arguments just doesn't make sense to me.

I would like to talk about a few of their arguments, but first I would like to let you know a little about me so that you know I am not bias towards any type of Archery Hunting. I am 41 years old and have been hunting since I was a small boy. My dad bought me my first recurve when I was 7. By the time I was 13 I was shooting carp in the creeks in the summer and hunting small game in the fall with my dads 50lb. Bear Kodiak Magnum. Bow hunting whitetails became my passion 17 years ago. I spend countless hours scouting shooting and sitting in a tree stand every year. I have harvested a lot of deer with archery equipment. Several mature bucks and two of them that put me in the Big Buck club in my state. All of them taken with a compound bow. I have harvested one small buck and several does with a crossbow.

Here are a few of the arguments I hear.

Crossbows are String Rifles Crossbows do have a longer range than traditional archery but not the newer compound bows. Past 30 yards most crossbows have a trajectory that is worse than that of a compound bow with the same or slower initial velocity.

Crossbows take a lot less practice than a compound bow This is true, they do take less practice to perfect. A compound takes less practice than traditional archery, so should we outlaw hunting with a compound bow? Maybe we should all hunt with 10lb. rocks to make it all even across the board.

If you aren't man enough to draw a longbow then you shouldn't be bow hunting. That one doesn't go over well with my wife since she has harvested more whitetails with a gun and a crossbow in the last 6 years than most men do their entire life. Two of which are real nice bucks she harvested with a crossbow.

When did we all quit being on the same team as hunters. Quit worrying about the equipment everybody is using and spend more time enjoying the fellowship that comes along with hunting. Some of the most memorable times of my life were spent hunting and fishing with my family and some of my closest friendships were developed through hunting and I really can't remember much about the equipment they were using to hunt with.

So please enjoy hunting the way you enjoy it most and don't get hung up on the equipment being used.

Our hunting rights are being infringed upon by Anti-hunting groups and our own government, so lets worry more about how to protect our rights instead.

Employing Bear Archery

I had listened a deal about these broadheads and I have to enunciate that the figure also really captured my attending then decided to afford them a test. I have to tell you that I was actually motivated with the carrying out and I would state that they unquestionably exist up to the wild refer. A few of the huntsmen that I make out had practiced them and from all reports they were moderately blissful with what they assured as well.

I was reasonably detailed that from the attend of them that they would have nice flight characteristics and boy did they ever fly authentic. It was alike charging with my Field Tips, I had brilliant accuracy and that is actually the most important affair when it numbers to bow tracking down. The effectuality of the broadhead is futile if you dont strike the aim and these broadheads wont let down you in that affect.

When the broadhead accomplishes the target area that is when the magic occurs. They have a Piston Hammer that deploys the blades on touch. There are no cams or levers which I observe is effective because they can frequently fail. These things exercised every single time. The Trophy Ridge Meat Searchers are actual to the address because they move through the animal incurring the course of least resistance past bones and this interprets to nicer incursion. Improved penetration implies that the power to stimulate a impeccable pass-through is magnified and blood exit is maximized. This direction you have a fresher kill proportion, not to mention the fact that it will be much easier to trail the animal once you mark a strike.

The structure of the broadhead is of nice stainless steel that is heat-treated for supplied effectiveness. These prepare for a very strong, very lasting broadhead. Nobody wishes to discover a broken broadhead and you wont with these beauties. The vanes will release forward hence that they can be removed easily from the objective which is a nice feature, but at the identical time they persist encircled in the quiver, which is also very effective.

How they Work

The head is rotating and the grooved tip reduces the shaving and wind immunity to nearly zero. Flight is superior with these broadheads. Once you hit the objective with these, the tip enters and the piston cylinder settled behind the tip dashes forward and lets the blades to inflate from the rear. At this spot the tip is going in the mark and the blades are opening up fully. Before the blades go into the point they are in full unfolded, and they are locked in position. This intends that the cutting diameter is grander without obviating the flight of the arrow. The fully deployed blades signify that the wound channel is greater and that the bleeding is augmented. Because there is little expiration of moving vigor the probabilities of the arrow passing satisfactory through the point is inflated and this will genuinely gain the blood trail. They have a immense non-barbed aim which signifies that the vanes will release ahead alleviating easy remotion from the animal.

What is the difference between sizes (#10, 24 RH) and (#20, 24 RH) for bows?

I am looking into buying a bow, and I noticed that this (http://www.buy.com/prod/bear-archery-kodiak-cub-recurve-bow/q/loc/17250/205809153.html) one has two "sizes". What do the #10 and #20 refer to?

Also, in your opinion, is this a good bow for an amateur? If not, can you make some other suggestions? I want a normal (not compound) bow under $200..

Thanks!

Elfin is correct.

That #10 means it takes ten pounds of force pulling backward on the string to pull it back 24".

That's a bow suitable for a very small child and nothing more. It's not good for the average beginner. That price is astronomical for children's bows, too. If you bought it, you'd probably get a week of use out of it before you put it up for sale and went for a heavier bow. My nephew started off at 20 pounds when he was 8 and was up to a 30 pounder within a month.

If you're over 13 and not anemic, you'll want to start with a 25-35 pound draw on average. Even first timer women can easily draw those with the correct instruction.

Don't buy new! New means "I have lots of excess cash to blow so everyone toss their overpriced crap my way". You can buy a year old bow on Ebay and pay 1/4 the price.

You....new to archery and all....go to Ebay and pick up any Bear fiberglass recurve you find in the 25-35 pound range. Don't pay over $30. Price does NOT equate to quality!

Try those two bows for a few days/weeks and see if you like archery enough to invest in a more expensive bow later on. You won't be out much cash and you'll get months or years of enjoyment out of them.
