Kenya Family Safari Travel Information
Children act as if they've seen it all, and in many ways they have, most have been subjected to a 24-hour, hundred-channel television loop; they have viewed every viral You Tube video that titillates, shocks, saddens, tickles, or pulls heartstrings; they've done everything from fly jets to race cars to shoot bad guys in hyper-real videogames; they've seen the wonders of nature in HD-clarity on Planet Earth DVDs. And yet. Real life trumps virtual reality every single time. A recent Kenya Family safari organized by African safaris and Adventures blew them away like no Playstation, Xbox, Blu-Ray, Imax, surround sound, or new-tech substitute-reality invention ever could and it turns out the Africa safari travel experience was armazing.
The trick to touring with children on a family vacation is to engage all their senses. The savannah of Kenya's Laikipia Plateau, Sabuk Lodge was such a hit, operated by Kenya's Sabuk Lodge and Hotels, the eight-room Ecolodge offers every fun activity and more listed in the popular The Dangerous Book for Boys, in fact the book, as well as its counterpart volume for girls, is displayed prominently on the coffee table.
There's fishing with a stick, string, and bread-dough bait in the Ewaso N'giro River; jumping off boulders into same river; playing outdoor table-tennis with a red-robed Samburu; looking for game on foot and on camel; learning to read scat and animal tracks; and listening to Verity's fireside bush tales, the Sabuk Lodge has been featured in Out of Africa and The Ghost and the Darkness). While it's hard to say no to all the activity, the languorous lure of the lodge is strong, with its uniquely handcrafted local furniture, open-sided suites overlooking the river, hearty meals served family-style, and quiet library nook.
Sabuk Lodge is one of a group of game lodges established on private reserves that once were exclusively ranch lands. Loisaba Wilderness Lodge is another one, where cattle ranchers and villagers and game lodges work in a unique, if sometimes uneasy partnership, with the result being the protection of once-hunted animals. For the tourists it's a more intimate and exclusive experience.
At Loisaba lodge families can do everything from game drives to horseback safaris to dips in the pool to tennis to river-rafting. Families will for sure enjoy sitting on private deck with a pair of binoculars and watching giraffe and elephant and zebra visit the watering hole far below. The children meanwhile, play endless rounds of bocce ball with the gardener, and made bows and arrows with the Samburu guide. You will virtually walk to your next night's accommodation, the Kiboko Starbeds, run almost exclusively by the neighboring Laikipia Masai and Samburu tribes. The netted beds areon raised platforms and wheeled out from beneath the thatched roof at night and you slept to the tune of hippo grunts and hyena laughs.
Loisaba also offered rides on bikes. The kids first sighting of a lion inside a cage in London or New York is electrifying, and that the big cat was in the gutteral throes of mating was an experience children in early stages of adolescence never forget. This is what a Kenya Family Safari best provides: moments of raw, uncensored life at its most elemental.

New poem~ The path of the heart~ opinions and suggestions for a better title please.?
The path of the heart
No one should ever humiliate themselves
To express the fullness of their love
Yet to humble oneself in admiration
Is a sign of respect all observe.
For desire can lead to shallow idolatry
And take away all of our senses
Overwhelming them in exotic perfume
And destroying our very essence
Still our hearts can be misguided
To worship the ground a lover walks
And so besotted and confounded
We don’t foresee the pain that stalks.
Oh but that love could be a free bird
And not caged beneath ribs
It would fly as an arrow across sky
Landing only by true love’s side.
The gift of unrequited love
Of full passion that has to hide
Is to write in great sorrow and emotion
And seek sanctuary in the word denied.

A Major Turning Point
L: Doug, a hot topic of conversation this week is the man who flew his airplane into the IRS building in Austin, Texas. What do you make of it? Is the guy a hero for the downtrodden taxpayer? Or a terrorist? Or just some lone lunatic?
Thanks for visiting!
