Here's where Stephen Stills and Neil Young's on-and-off partnership fell apart for the first time. The liner notes to BS's debut album had announced, "Steve is the leader, but we all are" and described Neil Young as "hot and cold," which in retrospect seems like a warning. Young appears to have at least one foot out the door already, the ambitious "Broken Arrow" and "Expecting to Fly" clearly pointing toward a solo career. And for all the timeless excellence of Young's "Mr. Soul," it's Stills's "Bluebird" that defines Buffalo Springfield Again, much as his "For What It's Worth" defined its predecessor. In one song, the group demonstrates astonishing versatility (from rock to folk to bluegrass), without the saccharine touches that mar Stills's post-Springfield work. But for all their considerable recorded achievements, Buffalo Springfield always felt like a band that never reached its potential. --David Wolf
10 great tracks. HDCD remastering. This is still sealed but there is a saw cut into the title spine that does not appear to touch art.

The Youngian reaction principle--which dictates that our hero follow commercial monsters (After the Goldrush/Harvest, Rust Never Sleeps) with willfully difficult busts (Time Fades Away, Hawks & Doves)--finally kicks into effect after a long string of straightahead bestsellers. The man's unpredictability has been a major reason he's remained vital for nigh on 30 years, so it's good to see he's still cranky enough to serve up these raw, sloppy, and, for hardcore fans, invigorating jam sessions with his fave band. --Jeff Bateman

Nobody does North London squalor better than Ruth Rendell. Describing in vivid detail the cultural sewer in which a monster named Teddy Brex grows up, she uses hideous furniture, slovenly housekeeping habits, even his mother's diet while pregnant to root us in the setting's hopeless ugliness. In contrast, Rendell introduces people and places of stunning beauty: Francine, a mentally fragile girl who became mute after witnessing her mother's murder; and Orcadia Cottage, scene of a famous painting that is at the center of much of the story's anguish. "It was far and away the most beautiful place he had ever seen," Rendell writes when Teddy--a gifted woodcrafter--first views the cottage. "The proportions of this hall, this room... the windows, the walls, the carpets, the flowers, the furniture, the paintings, all of it dazzled him." Teddy is another of Rendell's frightening moral cripples, a seemingly ordinary person capable of the vilest crimes. When he becomes obsessed with Francine after meeting her at art school, we know to expect murder--we just aren't sure when, or who will be the victim. Equally vile is Julia, Francine's stepmother, a psychologist of such immense and malevolent ineptness that we would swear she couldn't possibly exist if real life hadn't taught us otherwise. Other important characters are Harriet, a faded beauty who connects the past to the present; Teddy's uncle Keith, who first recognizes the boy's madness; and a bright red, lovingly restored Edsel, which becomes a hearse. Like all of her books, Rendell's latest is really about the secret acts of insanity that occur behind closed doors. Among her best books available in paperback are From Doon with Death, A Guilty Thing Surprised, The Keys to the Street, and, from the excellent Inspector Wexford series, Kissing the Gunner's Daughter, Road Rage, and Simisola. --Dick Adler
In Ruth Rendell's dark and contemporary universe, innocent dreams can turn to the most terrible nightmares. Teddy Brex emerges from a loveless, isolated childhood as a handsome but autistic young man. Francine Hill, traumatized by the murder of her mother, grows into a beautiful young woman who must endure the over-protectiveness of an increasingly obsessive stepmother.

The Arrow's Ascent: Astrology & the Quest for Meaning

In this creative and original work, Eric invites the reader on an adventure through the astrological system -- following the trajectory of the Sagittarian arrow as it ascends to the transpersonal before gliding back to view life anew. This is a philosophical discussion about our inherent connection to nature -- how astrology not only allows us to understand our evolutionary process but to partner with Spirit to expand and create our destiny. One major theme is the integration of perspectives. True to the spirit of Uranus currently residing in Pisces, various fields are beginning to dissolve barriers and come together. Included are ways that astrology may join more with our wisdom traditions as well as science. The result is to move away from the confines of only viewing astrology in a 2-dimensional fashion, as we are accustomed to do with the analysis of charts. This is a multi-leveled and multidimensional vision of the system. Most compellingly is the collaboration with paradigm changing research from physics, which irrefutably positions the psyche in complete consort with planetary energy in a most intimate way. Eric explains that with a mult-leveled approach, we can understand the symbolic nature of astrology while also preserving our fundamental connection to Nature that hosts us. The spirit of the book is to question, to seek and to expand. Eric invites the reader to adapt an inquisitive approach as we strive to develop a holistic view of this fascinating existence. Instead of delivering the ideas dogmatically, the book asks the reader to check in with the self, to find one's own unique truth. Together we approach the awe of the universe -- and what is often marginalized is how emotional the quest can be. This book is written from the heart, a synthesis of both analytical and imaginative styles. Ideas are grounded through creative writing vignettes, examples from culture, prominent people and everyday life The intended audience is open-minded spiritual seekers drawn to astrology who are willing and able to stretch their minds into new possibilities. The book is appropriate for astrology students and professionals interested in philosophical questions and dimensions of the field. It is for those who similarly believe that astrology is the philosopher's stone -- the agent or catalyst that brings clarity to our most ancient philosophical riddles.

More Info On Arrow Sight:

Purchasing Quality Archery Sights For Long Term Sporting
If you think for a moment and decide that archery is something you want to make a full time hobby or sport, then you should invest in the best accessories for your bow. The first thing you need is to find archery sights that will allow you to advance your aim to the fullest. It is the first step in getting yourself situated in the sport with little money out of pocket. You can choose between a fixed pin, moveable pin, and pendulum sights.
Fixed Pin Sights
The fixed pin sights have a minimum of one pin and a maximum of five. You can use a single pin sight for an added 25 yards and when added to the faster bows offered today, you can make it stretch to 40 yards by high or low holding. Some hunting sportsmen like this type because it offers they ease of use in having only one pine to worry with. The multiple pin archery sights can give a distance of 40 yards and can be held at any distance high or low. You can guess the distance will be longer than thirty yards but not quite make the forty yard mark. This range should give you a kill if you are hunting game.
Moveable Pins
Moveable pins also have a single pin and can be moved down or up depending on the sight. The marks of these archery sights will indicate the distance the arrow is to go. The great benefit is that you always hold on the target without having to move the bow itself. These archery sights are perfect for shooting at targets and for those who have fast bows that would cause the fixed pins to touch one another. They are not great for hunting.
Pendulum Sights
These pendulum archery sights are created for use in tree stands as the pin swings to allow you to aim downhill and gives you a clear target to aim at that steep angle. These type of sights need to be sighted by the height and amount of yards and they will be able to give you a good shot at that particular height. These are great to use if you can use them correctly. High downhill shooting is a result of the form changes and not the gravity involved. Once you learn the correct way to change your form, your shots will come out more successful when using these archery sights.
Peep Sights
Peep sights are very useful and important in aiming the bow. This type of archery sights forces the shooter to use a solid anchor point giving them a more consistent range of shots under difficult conditions. Choosing the right peep sight means a model that allows you visibility even if the bowstring rotates as you draw it back. You can generally find a good shot with the three pin archery sights in most situations. You definitely need one with a clear visibility to it.

How to sight my bow sight?
I just got a new bow. It has a three pin sight. It seems that I can not get the pins low enough to shot well. All three pins are as low as they can go in the chamber. Ant the chamber is as low as the settings will allow and I am still shooting to low, I know my arrows are a little heavy for a 65# pound pull but I can't imaging that I would miss the target low from 15 yards away.
Check one important thing that many people miss. Make sure that when you're at Full Draw with your arrow knocked in, that your arrow is parallel with the cradle your arrow "rests" in. (you may need assistance with this since it's hard to see while holding the bow at full draw) If your knock point is too high it will make the tip of your arrow point down, which in turn will make you shoot low. Once you establish this, make sure that your peep and your sight are in line with each other and parallel with your arrow. Make sure your sight is approximately centered before checking this. Have the same person help with this too (hold a piece of string tight between your sights (top pin) and your peep sight. If your peep sight is to low you will be aiming down before you even take aim. Once you've got those two things straightened out you're ready to start sighting in your bow. Aim at the center of the bulls eye ( I usually take the first shot @ 10 yds. and if I'm within 6-8 in. of the bulls eye then I'll move back to 20yds., if not move your pin in the direction you're hitting, up if high and down if low. Once at the 20 yd. mark aim at the center of the bulls eye, shoot 3 arrows, see where you are hitting. If Low (move the pin down to the arrows) If High (move the pin up to the arrows) Your left to right works the same way. If you're arrows are hitting left then you move your sight to the left, if they're hitting right you move your sight to the right. Once you get the 20 yd. pin set (hitting bulls eye everytime) you can move back to your next distance, put the 20yd. pin on the bulls eye and shoot 3 arrows. Hold your bow up again before you move and put the 20yd. pin back on the bulls eye. Then you move your second pin to where the arrows are at under the bulls eye. (keeping your 20 yd. pin on the bulls eye) Move to your next distance, repeat this step for the last pin. You should be good from then on... PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!
