Driving Towards The Daylight
Sale Price: $9.98

Recorded at Studio At The Palms in Las Vegas, NV, The Village Recorder in Los Angeles, CA and The Cave in Malibu, CA, Driving Towards The Daylight is a balanced back-to-basics album that highlights Bonamassa s signature style of roots blues with rock-and-roll guts, while honoring the traditions of the original blues musicians. We ve taken some really traditional old blues songs the Howlin Wolf song Who s Been Talkin ? and the Robert Johnson song Stones In My Passway, and we ve tried to imagine how they would do them in a rock context, said Shirley. It s a very exciting return to the blues in a very visceral way. It s vibrant and it s gutsy and it s really, really rugged. To challenge Joe and move him out of his comfort zone, a unique group of musicians was gathered including Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford (guitar), Blondie Chaplan (guitar), Anton Fig (drums and percussion), Arlan Schierbaum (keyboard), Michael Rhodes (bass), Carmine Rojas (bass), Jeff Bova and The Bovaland Brass, Pat Thrall (guitar), and Brad s son Harrison Whitford (guitar). The album features five Bonamassa-penned originals including the bruising opener Dislocated Boy, the road warrior title track (and first single) Driving Towards The Daylight, I Got All You Need, Heavenly Soul, and Somewhere Trouble Don t Go. Other tracks include Bonamassa s versions of Tom Waits New Coat Of Paint, Lonely Town Lonely Street, by Bill Withers (Lean On Me, Ain t No Sunshine) and A Place In My Heart by Bernie Marsden of White Snake (Here I Go Again). On the album closer, Australian rock singer Jimmy Barnes sings lead vocals on his 1987 hit "Too Much Ain't Enough Love." Currently available for sale on DVD and Blu-ray and airing on PBS and Palladia HD is the brand new Joe Bonamassa: Beacon Theatre Live From New York, which showcases the stunning sold-out two-night performance at New York City s legendary Beacon Theatre last November. Special guests include Paul Rodgers, John Hiatt and Beth Hart.Bonamassa s other recent projects include the 2011 CD/DVD Live Over Europe as well as the sophomore album 2 from Black Country Communion, Bonamassa s hard rock band with Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple), Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner) and Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Billy Idol). His last studio album, 2011 s Dust Bowl, is his best-selling album to date.

PINK FLOYD PULSE
At long last Pink Floyd: Pulse has arrived on DVD, and Floyd fans already know it's a major cause to celebrate. The original VHS release was a milestone bestseller, but it seemed to take forever for the DVD to arrive, with numerous delays while Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and long-time Floyd producer James Guthrie labored to restore, re-edit, and remix this legendary concert video in 5.1-channel Dolby Surround Sound. The resulting two-disc set was well worth the wait: While the limitations of the original video source are still evident in the sometimes-hazy image quality (Gilmour would later admit the concert should have been captured on film), Floyd fans will unanimously agree that Pulse has never looked or sounded better, and only the absence of group co-founder Roger Waters prevents this from being the ultimate document of Pink Floyd in performance. (Even without Waters, it's easily one of the group's most impressive stage productions.) Gracefully directed with minimal intrusion by veteran music video and concert director David Mallet, and shot on video during Pink Floyd's two-week stint at London's Earls Court Exhibition Centre in October 1994, this 145-minute performance (from Floyd's Division Bell tour) is a sonic marvel to behold. Under a massive arch festooned with then-state-of-the-art laser, lighting, and projection systems, the 1987 incarnation of Pink Floyd (Gilmour, keyboardist Richard Wright, and drummer Nick Mason) and their stellar supporting band kicks off with "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" (a loving tribute to Floyd co-founder Syd Barrett), followed by four tracks from The Division Bell, two from 1987's A Momentary Lapse of Reason, "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" from 1979's magnum opus The Wall, and leading into intermission with an absolutely stunning performance of "One of These Days," the timeless opening track from 1971's Meddle. The centerpiece of Disc 2 is a near-perfect performance of 1974's Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety--reason enough to make this a must-have DVD for even the most casual Floyd admirers. And while no one will ever re-create the sheer magnificence of Clare Torry's original tour de force vocals on "The Great Gig in the Sky," it's safe to say that backup singers Sam Brown, Claudia Fontaine, and Durga McBroom deliver the next best thing, in addition to seamless contributions throughout the concert. After the closing heartbeat of "Eclipse," the concert ends with encore performances of "Wish You Were Here," "Comfortably Numb," and a no-holds-barred, pyrotechnically explosive rendition of The Wall's "Run Like Hell," all showcasing Gilmour's guitar mastery with frequent close-ups of his picking and fret-work as seen throughout the concert. (Like Gilmour, Mason and Wright were never dynamic onstage, and that's true here as well, but their technical precision is fully evident, and while guitarist Tim Renwick and saxophonist Dick Parry are each given moments to shine, bassist Guy Pratt is a worthy substitution for Waters, especially when vocally sparring with Gilmour on "Run Like Hell.") With beautiful packaging, an 8-page booklet, and menu designs by long-time Floyd associate Storm Thorgerson, the DVDs offer an abundance of bonus features including "Bootlegging the Bootleggers," featuring surprisingly good-quality "boot" video performances of "What Do You Want From Me?," "On the Turning Away," "Poles Apart," and "Marooned." The surreal round-ratio screen films seen throughout the concert can all be viewed independently (still in round format, and several offered in both original and alternate versions). Music videos for "Learning to Fly" and "Take It Back" are included on Disc 1, along with "Tour Stuff" including maps, itineraries, and stage plans for the 1994 tour. "Say Goodbye to Life as We Know It" is a playful backstage video (mostly involving the production staff's ongoing quest for a good pint of beer), and after delivering a heartfelt introduction to Pink Floyd's 1996 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (with Roger Waters and Syd Barrett acknowledged by Gilmour), Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan joins Gilmour and Wright for a moving acoustic performance of "Wish You Were Here" (directed at Waters, perhaps?). Additional features include album cover art, a photo gallery, and the concert-only audio choice between a 448kbps audio bitstream or a higher-quality 640kbps stream for higher-quality DVD players. The system set-up feature ensures that audiophiles will achieve optimum speaker performance in keeping with Pink Floyd's exacting technical standards. In tandem with the superior concert presentation, these features make Pulse one of the best--if not the best--music DVDs of 2006, guaranteed to satisfy Floyd fans for many years to come. --Jeff Shannon More from Pink Floyd and David Gilmour Pulse (CD) Is There Anybody Out There?/The Wall Live Pink Floyd 1980-81 Pink Floyd--The Wall 25th Anniversary (DVD) The Division Bell, Pink Floyd Delicate Sound of Thunder, Pink Floyd A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Pink Floyd Live 8 on DVD--Featuring Pink Floyd Pink Floyd--Live at Pompeii (Director's Cut) (DVD), Pink Floyd On an Island, David Gilmour

Tron: Legacy (Four-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy)
Sale Price: $26.95

The luminescent lines and shimmering surfaces of Tron: Legacy will tantalize anyone who's lusted after the latest smartphone. The long-ago disappearance of his computer-genius father has left Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund, Four Brothers) with existential ennui and a lot of money. When he discovers his father's secret workshop, he gets sucked into a computerized realm ruled by a megalomaniac computer program named Clu--who just happens to be his father's virtual doppelganger. To find his real father (Jeff Bridges, reprising his role from the original Tron, with a bit of his role from The Big Lebowski thrown in for kicks), Sam has to fight in gladiatorial games, drive in digital demolition derbies, and be stripped and dressed by slinky pneumatic babes. For all the techno-babble and quasi-philosophy the characters spout, this is a movie without an idea in its shiny head. It would be pointless to describe the many sillinesses because Tron: Legacy isn't actually trying to be smart; it's trying to look cool. It succeeds. Olivia Wilde (House) looks like the coolest action figure ever (if the entire movie could be nothing but the shot of her lounging on a futuristic sofa, it would be a masterpiece of avant-garde gizmo-fetishism). The facemasks are cool, the glowing skintight outfits are cool, the light-cycles are really, really cool--and let's be honest, it's all about the light-cycles. That's what the audience for Tron wants, and that's what Tron: Legacy delivers. --Bret Fetzer Versions of Tron: Legacy on Blu-ray and DVD Tron: Legacy DVD Tron: Legacy (Two-Disc Combo) Tron: Legacy (Four-Disc Combo) Tron: Legacy / Tron The Original Classic (Five-Disc Combo) Tron: Legacy / Tron: The Original Classic (Five-Disc Combo in Identity Disc Collectible Packaging) Release Date April 5, 2011 April 5, 2011 April 5, 2011 April 5, 2011 April 5, 2011 Format/Disc # DVD Blu-ray, DVD Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy Tron: Legacy includes: Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy Tron: The Original Classics includes: Blu-ray Tron: Legacy includes: Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital Copy Tron: The Original Classics includes: Blu-ray Tron: Legacy Blu-ray 3D No No Yes Yes Yes Tron: The Original Classic No No No Yes Yes Digital Copy No No Yes Yes Yes Collectable Lithograph No No No No Yes Bonus Content First look at Tron: Uprising, the Disney XD animated series; Visualizing Tron: Watch how the filmmakers brought the astonishing world inside the Grid to life; Installing the cast: Stars discuss their Tron experience Same as Tron: Legacy DVD The Next Day: Flynn Lives Revealed: What happens immediately following the end of the movie?; Launching the Legacy: Beyond the amazing visuals is a rich story filled with an entire world's history and mythology; Disc Roars: Watch director Joseph Kosinski use the raucous crowd at Comic-Con to record actual ADR for the disc game stadium crowd; Music video: “Derezzed” written, produced, and performed by Daft Punk Same as Tron: Legacy DVD Same as Tron: Legacy (Two-Disc Combo) Same as Tron: Legacy DVD Same as Tron: Legacy (Two-Disc Combo) Same as Tron: Legacy DVD Same as Tron: Legacy (Two-Disc Combo) Limited edition identity disc packaging Tron: The Original Classic Bonus Content None None None Exclusive photo Tronology; The Tron phenomenon; The making of Tron; Deleted scenes: with introductions by Bruce Boxleitner; Audio commentary:Steven Lisberger, Donald Kushner, Harrison Ellenshaw and Richard Taylor; Production gallery; Storyboards: showcasing early work on Light Cycles; Storyboard-To-Film comparisons Exclusive photo Tronology; The Tron phenomenon; The making of Tron; Deleted scenes: with introductions by Bruce Boxleitner; Audio commentary:Steven Lisberger, Donald Kushner, Harrison Ellenshaw and Richard Taylor; Production gallery; Storyboards: showcasing early work on Light Cycles; Storyboard-To-Film comparisons

Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure (Two-Disc Blu-ray/ DVD Combo)

Tinkerbell is back for a whole new season of adventure in Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure. Pixie Hollow is all abuzz with preparations for autumn and Tinkerbell is hard at work on her latest invention when she is unexpectedly summoned by Queen Clarion and the Minister of autumn. Tinkerbell fears that she's in trouble again, but is instead delighted to find out that Fairy Mary has recommended her for the important job of creating a one-of-a-kind scepter that will focus the light of an unusual blue harvest moon through a rare moonstone in order to replenish the pixie dust tree's supply of pixie dust. Tinkerbell gladly rises to the challenge, accepting her dust-keeper friend Terrence's offers of help, but as the days fly rapidly by, pressure begins to build and Tinkerbell becomes annoyed by Terrence's constant attention. Sending Terrence away on an errand seems like a good idea, but what he brings back inadvertently causes the almost finished scepter and the incredibly rare moonstone to break into pieces. Tinkerbell lashes out at Terrence and then departs alone on a desperate quest to fix the moonstone. What Tinkerbell learns on her journey is that she must take responsibility for her own actions and that the power and value of true friendship is much greater than she'd ever imagined. Like the first Tinkerbell, the colors and clarity of animation are simply breathtaking in this production, but the story lags somewhat thanks to a lengthy set up and a general lack of suspense in the first half of the film. Still, it's a perfectly entertaining movie that will delight children ages 3 and up as well as satisfy most parents. Returning voice talent includes Mae Whitman, Kristin Chenoweth, Jane Horrocks, Anjelica Huston, Jesse McCartney, and Raven-Symone. --Tami HoriuchiStills from Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure

Sleeping Beauty (Two-Disc Platinum Edition)
Sale Price: $18.74
|
|
|
Disney's 1959 animated effort was the studio's most ambitious to date, a widescreen spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapting Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked Queen in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs taunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her 16th birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Things almost but not quite turn out that way, thanks to the assistance of some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. It's not really all that much about the title character--how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here. And Malificent's castle, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur. --David Kronke On the DVDSleeping Beauty was the last and most lavish of Walt Disney's animated fairy tales. He told the artists not to hurry and to give him "a moving illustration": The film required almost four and one-half years and one million finished drawings. Instead of the 19th century storybook illustrations that had influenced the look of Snow White and Pinocchio, the artists adapted the flattened perspective and jewel-like colors of 15th century French illuminated manuscripts. The results remain unmatched for sheer visual opulence. However, Sleeping Beauty suffers from a weak story: the vision of an ageless princess slumbering in a vine-shrouded tower was replaced with elements of Snow White and a boy-meets-girl musical. The evil Maleficent and the three Good Fairies (Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather) dominate the film, rather than Princess Aurora and Prince Philip. Sleeping Beauty was originally released in 70mm, and the Blu-ray edition restores the film to its original splendor. (Many earlier releases trimmed the wide-screen images and/or muted the glowing palatte.) The Bonus DVD looks good on a flat screen monitor, but it pales in comparison to the richness of the Blu-ray. In addition to the commentaries and a making-of documentary, the set includes myriad extras that vary widely in quality. Nostalgia buffs will enjoy the recreation of the old Sleeping Beauty's Castle attraction in Disneyland, and the TV program "Four Artists Paint One Tree" provides a welcome showcase for key talents from the film. But the CG animation of the dragon and the voice imitations of the Good Fairies fail to capture the magic of the originals in the "Dragon Encounter"; the "Maleficent's Challenge Game"--a hi-tech Twenty Questions--sounds only vaguely like the redoubtable sorceress. (Rated G: violence) --Charles Solomon Stills from Sleeping Beauty (Click for larger image)
A beautiful princess born in a faraway kingdom is destined by a terrible curse to prick her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel and fall into a deep sleep which can only be awakened by true love's first kiss. Though the titular princess is on par with the rest of Disney's essential heroines, most of the fun arises from the trio of charming fairies entrusted with her care: Flora, Fauna, and Meriweather. Meanwhile the evil Malificent may just be Disney's most chilling villainess. This classic makes wondrous use of Tchaikovsky's same-titled ballet score, which earned SLEEPING BEAUTY an Academy Award nomination for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture.

The Mentalist: The Complete Third Season
Sale Price: $18.61
|
|
|
Simon Baker's sly, sexy charm is a big reason The Mentalist is one of TV's most popular series. But Baker isn't the only appeal of this thoughtful, well-written, fast-paced crime drama. The Mentalist owes much more to Agatha Christie than to Law & Order or other contemporary police procedurals--because it focuses on Baker's character, Patrick Jane, using his brain and intuition to crack cases. Sure, there's the usual thorough police work done by Jane's California Bureau of Investigation team, led by the no-nonsense Agent Lisbon (the always appealing Robin Tunney). But Jane has gifts of observation that help profile, and capture, the bad guys preying on the good people around Sacramento. Jane is also pursuing his own specific demon: Red John, the evil serial killer who murdered Jane's family at the beginning of the series. It's a wonder that the folks in California aren't in a blind panic, given that this madman is still at large some three years later--but it's to The Mentalist's credit, and to its CBI in particular, that the story thread continues to be believable, and manageable from a crime-fighting perspective. The ensemble cast is stellar, including Tunney, who seems to be developing some deeper feelings for Jane. Other standouts include Tim Kang and Amanda Rhigetti, whose new romance with an FBI agent pummels the heart of her former flame, played by Owain Yeoman, and contains a potential landmine or two itself later in the season. But it's Baker's light, deft portrayal of a tortured genius who manages to keep a wry sense of humor that makes The Mentalist so compelling episode after episode. As always, the location shooting around Northern California is breathtaking. This boxed set includes a great documentary with interviews of professors and former law-enforcement officials at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York, talking about how real serial-killer profiling is done--and applying it to the fictional Red John. And this season also features an episode directed by Simon Baker, with a commentary from him that is particularly crisp and entertaining. Crime-show fans will love The Mentalist, and so will those intrigued by the always-baffling puzzles of human behavior. --A.T. Hurley

Invasion - The Complete Series

|
|
After a monstrous hurricane devastates a small Florida town, a quarantine order from the sheriff and the strange events that follow suggest to a local park ranger that a dire--and possibly alien--new threat was left in the storm's wake. Eddie Cibrian, William Fichtner, Tyler Labine star in this darkly suspenseful 2005-06 sci-fi series. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital Surround stereo; Subtitles: French, Portuguese, Spanish; deleted scenes. 22 episodes on 6 discs. 15 hrs.
Following the success of Lost, Invasion was one of numerous sci-fi-themed shows that debuted in the fall of 2005. But unlike Threshold and Surface, Invasion had the distinct advantage of airing in ABC's slot right after Lost, at 10 p.m. on Wednesdays. Created and produced by Shaun Cassidy (yes, the former teen idol who also produced American Gothic), the series starts in a flurry with a devastating hurricane threatening a Florida city and a 21st-century family happens to be in the middle of it. There's park ranger Russell Groves (Eddie Cibrian) and his wife, Larkin (Lisa Sheridan), who's an inquisitive television reporter. Living with them is Larkin's no-account brother, Dave (Tyler Labine), who blogs about conspiracy theories and aliens while between jobs. Also living with them some of the time are Russell's kids, Rose (Ariel Gade) and Jesse (Evan Peters), who also spend time with their mother, doctor Mariel Underlay (Kari Matchett), who has also remarried, to the town's sinister sheriff, Tom (William Fichtner). Tom also has a child from a previous marriage, sexy teen Kira (Alexis Dziena). Amid the chaos of the hurricane, little Rose is the only one to notice a group of strange lights dropping from the sky into the water, then Mariel disappears only to turn up in a swamp the next morning, seemingly unharmed but now with a strange affinity for water. Not so lucky is Dave, whose investigation of Rose's colored lights leads to the discovery that those lights have a pretty fierce set of teeth. And what does the sheriff have to hide? Parts of Invasion feel like The X-Files or 24, and obviously the central concept isn't new, but it has enough revelations and spooky chills to keep the viewer coming back for more. Unfortunately, even the plum slot following Lost wasn't enough to keep Invasion from being canceled after its first season. The problem is that the season--and the series--ends in a whopping cliffhanger, which may never be resolved. So before you invest yourself into a full season of Invasion, be warned. --David Horiuchi

More Info On Blue Light:

Acne Treatment Options: Blue Light Acne Therapy
For those seeking out alternatives to acne treatment, there are a number of great options that have recently become available. Some involve topical creams and other more invasive laser therapies. Researching which treatment options work best for you is a great way to decide what treatments to try.
One interesting new treatment is blue light acne therapy which involves the use of a special blue light to heal and treat acne. The treatment is growing in popularity and can help to prevent acne from forming. The light is generally more effective for those who suffer from moderate acne and not cystic or nodular acne. The treatment helps to dry out acne and also prevents the growth of bacteria known to cause acne on the skin. The light can be used on the face, neck, chest, and back areas. Moving periodically to allow the skin to get an even exposure to the light is important so that the entire surface area gets treated. There are minor side effects associated with the treatment so far, such as minor tanning of the skin, which is especially notable in Asian complexions. Making sure to protect the skin from heavy sun exposure is also a good idea when seeking blue light acne therapy. The skin may be more susceptible to tanning or burning if the light is used.
Since the treatment is fairly new on the skin care scene, all possible side effects are not yet fully known. Over time patients who find the treatment successful notice that their acne dries up faster and that new acne is prevented. The treatment thus works best for superficial acne lesions. In some cases, using the treatment may worsen or exacerbate acne that is cystic, leading to more inflammation and pain. It is thus best to have a trained dermatologist supervise treatments to some extent, and to have your acne type and skin type diagnosed so that a dermatologist can guide you toward the most effective treatment. For some, blue light acne therapy is highly effective and clears up the skin in little time. For most patients, as with any acne treatment, it may take a few weeks to see solidly apparent results. With this, it is a good idea to give each treatment option that is tried out a chance to work, which can involve a few weeks to months. Not all acne treatments will begin to show their results immediately.
Blue light acne therapy is an option that many can at least try to see if it is the treatment that may offer them a dramatic shift in skin health and appearance. For many, this means freedom from topical creams and gels, freedom from more invasive treatments, freedom from painful healing times, and freedom from having to take oral medications with harsh side effects. Seeking out alternative treatments is a great way to find a cure for acne which is feasible and non-invasive, having few harsh side effects on the body or skin. By seeking out alternatives, many patients are discovering that they can be free from prescriptions and unwanted side effects.
