Antifreeze boiling Noise?

Well most likely they did not flush the entire system, else the fluid would all be fresh, and either orange or green, depending upon the type of anti-freeze they used. Often, inexperienced mechanics only drain the radiator, and that will leave the coolant in the engine, although if they changed the water pump, most of that should have drained out as well.

Now, as to other potential causes for the coolant boiling, it could be the thermostat, but that would be rare. Mostly thermostats are designed to freeze in the open position when they fail, so as not to block the flow. Typically when a thermostat fails the coolant flows freely and the car wil actually operate at a slightly below normal temperature as the thermostat is failing to hold coolant in the engine block long enough to reach the specified operating temperature (about 180 to 190 degrees F). In the winter time, the heat may not work as well as a result, but in the summer it will hardly be noticeable.

More likely, when they drained the system and refilled it, they did not open the vent plugs on top of the engine to let air out. Then air gets trapped in the top of the engine and prevents the coolant from circulating, so it boils over. There wil be two or three large bolts usually located next to the seam between the top of the engine block and the bottom of the cylinder head, or thereabouts, which can be unscrewed to vent trapped air. Then you can use a funnel to top off the anti-freeze to fill the void, and most likely this will take care of the problem.

You should insist, however, on a complete flush, as you certainly paid for it, and paid to have it done right.
