Jesus Presence by Rodney Howard Browne

We must never become blasé about the presence of the Lord. We must never come to the place where we say, “Well, we’ve been there. We’ve seen that. We’ve done that. Now we want something else.†God doesn’t want us to be like the children of Israel when they wandered in the desert. They complained and grumbled over the manna that came from heaven.

When they didn’t have it, they complained. When they had it, they complained. What do you want? People don’t have the presence of Jesus, and they complain. Then they have the presence of Jesus and they complain. What do you want? I know what I want. I want His presence more than anything that this world has to offer.

I want the continuous presence of Jesus. I don’t just want His presence on a Sunday morning. I want His presence on a Monday morning, on a Tuesday; on a Wednesday, on a Thursday, on a Friday, on a Saturday. I want to live and dwell in His presence, because I’ve found out that His presence is the hiding place for the believer. When the storms of life are raging, where do I go? I go to His presence. I go to the cleft of the rock. I go to the secret place. Psalm 31:19-20 says,

Oh, how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues. If you’re getting arrogant, I know what the cure is. You’ve just got to get in His presence.

The more you’re in His presence, the smaller you become and the bigger He becomes. The reason some people are puffed up with their own importance, a legend in their own minds, is because they’ve been outside of the presence of Jesus. When you come into the presence of Jesus, you realize that you are nothing and He is everything.

When we started our church a preacher called me and he was angry. He said, “I just want to tell you right now, you’re not an apostle.â€

I said “Okay. That’s fine.â€

He said, “You’re not a prophet.â€

I said, “That’s fine, whatever you sayâ€

He said, “You’re not an evangelist. You’re not a pastor.

You’re not a teacher.â€

I started to laugh on the telephone. I was laughing so much, tears were rolling down my cheeks. I said, “You’re a very funny man.â€

He said, “Why?â€

I said, “You have blessed me with this phone call.â€

“What do you mean?â€

I said, “For years I’ve been praying, ‘Lord, I’m nothing.

You’re everything.’ And now you’ve phoned me to confirm that my prayer has finally been answered!â€

Everybody’s worried about titles, but I’m not. You can call me what you like — I just want the presence of Jesus. In His presence, there’s fullness of joy. In His presence is everything we need. And I want His presence all the time. Someone said, “You can’t have it all the time.†But I want His presence all the time. Every day. When I lie on my bed, when I wake up in the morning, and when I drive down the road.

People will notice when you’re in the presence of Jesus. Look at Acts 4:13. The people of Jerusalem looked at Peter and John and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, but they marveled and they took knowledge of the fact that they’d been with Jesus. Do people take knowledge that you’ve been with Jesus?

Slander, defamation and propaganda must be made an example. Plus, it will help pay the national debt and help damaged victims help get their lives on track.
