Canyon Trilogy: Native American Flute Music
Sale Price: $9.98

Nakai's free improvisations on this album are based on his impressions of the Anasazi and Sinagua sites, ancient cliff dwellings that were home to communities of Native people thousands of years ago. By using the Roland SDE 3000 Digital Delay system, Nakai is able to play duets with his own echo, in an effort to emulate the echoes of the past that haunt these ruins. On this recording, Nakai's flute sounds even more plaintive than usual, as if the spirits of these forgotten ancestors had entered into the studio to fill his playing with the whispered reverberations of their ancient ways. This is one of Nakai's most deeply felt recordings, one that resonates with a deep, melancholy yearning. --j. poet

Cedar Dreams - American Indian Solo Flute
Sale Price: $14.85

Grammy nominated American Indian flute virtuoso John Two-Hawks offers up a rare collection of his incredible flute solos. Considered by some to be one of the greatest Native flute players of all time, this musical offering showcases the effortless mastery with which Two-Hawks plays these ancient instruments. More importantly, these flute renditions are powerful spiritual expressions from the soul of a man who possesses not only great technical skill, but a deep connection with the amazing cedar flute. I am always honored and humbled to be able to play these flutes. All of my flutes are very special to me. I know them so well and so intimately that they are almost like family. The American Indian flute has been around for countless centuries. Many Indigenous Nations have wonderfully long histories with the wooden flute. Some did not have flutes. In the Lakota language, the word used to describe the flute is 'Hokagapi', which means 'to make a voice.' After years of experience with these beautiful instruments, I can tell you that the flute is indeed, a voice. It gives a voice to the longing in our hearts. It reaches out beyond words and speaks to our wounded souls with a healing touch that fills the empty spaces in us with good medicine. A debt of gratitude goes to those Indian ancestors who persevered and continued making wooden flutes, even in the hardest of times. Without them, we may have never known the sweet sound of a cedar flute. These flutes are more than wood. They carry with them the hope for the mending of the sacred hoop of the world. To all who have heard this call in the voice of the flute, I am honored to share these songs. John Two-Hawks is a GRAMMY and Emmy nominated, Platinum Award winning musician whose music has been featured by Fox Searchlight, HBO, The History Channel, National Public Radio, NativeRadio.com, American Indian Radio on Satellite, Gathering of Nations Radio, and countless other worldwide media outlets. His numerous best-selling CDs, prestigious awards and ground-breaking achievements have earned him a distinguished reputation as one of the world's premier Native American musicians. Two-Hawks is a bona fide music visionary and pioneer who was among the first to introduce the Indigenous Flute to the world decades ago. From the beginning, he demanded the highest standards of excellence. As a result, John Two-Hawks has taken his signature brand of Native Flute music into places it has never been, brought it to millions who had never heard it before, and elevated it to a place of equal billing and respect in the world of music. Two-Hawks is most known for his effortless virtuosity with the Native American Flute, and yet the Native Flute is only one among a myriad of musical instruments John Two-Hawks plays and includes in his signature brand of music. Some of the instruments JTH employs in his music are: beautiful vocals, guitars, keys-synth-pianos, percussion-drums-rattles, mandolins, dulcimers, and the Finnish kantele, just for starters! The tasteful musical mosaic of all these instruments masterfully weaved together in harmonious compositional arrangements is part of what has contributed to the worldwide popularity of Two-Hawks' music. Even with the enormous amount of success he has experienced, John Two-Hawks remains true to his Lakota ethnic and cultural heritage, and has always continued to be fiercely committed to Indigenous human and civil rights and social justice. He is a kind, gentle and humble soul, as well as a brilliant musician, composer and performer, and this all comes through in his emotionally stirring and evocative, one-of-a-kind music.

More Info On Cedar Wood:

This article talks in detail about The Red Cedar and Cedar Sidings. It talks about the roots of Cedar Siding. It also give important maintenance tips. If you are in for Cedar Siding, this article is a must read.Cedar is a contemporary, yet classic building material chosen for its beauty, versatility, and durability.
Enhance the beauty of your home with pre-stained cedar siding.
Beauty aside, the purely practical, dollars-and-cents value of cedar siding offers other benefits: the cedar siding wood's cellular structure creates interior air spaces that give it an insulation value higher than most woods and much higher than brick or concrete. Buildings which feature cedar siding tend to stay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Cedar siding also has excellent sound suppression and absorption qualities.
Cedar Siding - A Bounty of Nature
By looking at it once, Cedar Siding may not look too appealing. But once you experience living in it, you will realize that Cedar Siding oozes warmth that you have been longing since ages. Traditionally, Red Cedars have been used in making the shakes. This was because of the abundance of the Red Cedars in the Taiga. But, with the advent of modernization, their numbers have greatly been reduced, making manufacturers look at other types of wood in the manufacture of shakes.
Benefits of Cedar siding
-The problems of shrink lines, lap marks, streaking and overspray are no more. They are very durable. It is said that some cedar sidings can even last a lifetime, if properly installed and maintained.
-No weather delays, no waiting for painters to show up, no lost production time.
-Every piece of wood is dried, precision milled and stained to provide long lasting beauty.
-Coating adhesion is improved as compared to wood that is allowed to weather while waiting to be coated.
-Cedar need not be painted. In this case, it will retain a natural look. Natural cedars can come in varying colors, from light shades to reddish ones. The more red the cedar is, higher is the price. Aging is the main factor causing the cedar sidings to become reddish in color.
Getting the siding material is an easy job.
Cedar siding has a disadvantage too. Since it made of wood, it is vulnerable to termite attacks. This will make the siding weak. There might be other pest infestations and fungal infections. All these will compromise the structural integrity of your house. Care should be taken against these agents. Apply a protective coating of polish or a varnish that will retard the growth of the fungus. Also take care that it is not in contact with too much water. It is true that to some extent, these sidings are water resistant, but after a point, it starts to swell like any other wood and this may once again make the siding vulnerable to fungus.
Cedar siding is well known and well regarded as a superior building material with a long history of excellent performance in withstanding the rigors of time and weather. However, like any other building material, it gives its best performance when properly specified, installed and finished.

A Cedar Wood Doormat Can Mean a Healthier You
With all of the smog and pollution concerns swirling around, people tend to forget just how dirty the inside of their homes can get. A cedar wood doormat doesn't just look great; it can also mean less visits to the doctor. In addition to keeping out dirt, mud and sand, a doormat also helps reduce dust and microscopic contaminants from entering the home.
According to the EPA, the insides of people's homes are actually on average more polluted than the outside, often by as much as 2-5 times as polluted. If you think that's scary, consider this. Americans tend to stay indoors 90% of the time, compared to other countries. As a result, asthma has increased by 600% over the last 3 decades due in large part to indoor air pollution. But it's not just asthma that a cedar wood doormat can help to protect against and alleviate symptoms from the following: allergies, lung disorders, cancer and more are all affected by and exacerbated by air contaminants. Up to 85% of these are brought in from outdoors. An elevated level of indoor pollutants is even said to contribute to birth defects and neurological problems.
So what's exactly in this dust and grime? Aside from higher levels of lead, dust contains viruses, bacteria, animal waste, insect parts, mold spores, dust mites and their feces, pollen, pesticides, paint particles, construction debris and asbestos. Once inside, it's easy for dust to become embedded in floors and carpets. Also, because of a lack of circulation, toxic airborne particles will remain. Homes are built nowadays to keep the outdoors tightly sealed and at bay, but as a result anything inside the house is also contained and will thrive because there is no wind to blow things away or rain to wash it clean.
A cedar wood doormat is useful over other types because they dry easily from a unique slatted design and won't trap in moisture and other matter. Fibrous materials like coir and palmyra are not as durable as wood, do not dry as quickly and become havens for germs. In fact, sometimes fiber mats have the opposite effect and will kick up and track in any trapped dust that was in it. Cedar, on the other hand, remains clean, and because the wood is naturally strong and resistant to cracking and rotting, there isn't a worry of something growing on or in it.
As an added precaution, there are a few extra steps you can take to ensure nothing unwanted is coming in with your visitors. Spray down your cedar wood doormat weekly with a disinfectant like Lysol. Also, try to have everyone leave their shoes at the door when they enter (hey, it works for the Japanese). Finally, do not place grocery bags or anything else on doormats that will later be placed on counter tops or in areas where people.
The truth of the matter is that germs are everywhere. Some are harmless, some are not, but being a germaphobe is limiting and difficult to keep up. That being said, a certain level of cleanliness is expected, especially in households with young children and pets. A cedar wood doormat then is one subtle touch that will look great while keeping you a little bit safer.

What would be the safest nail and the safest screw to use on a cedar wood house side?
House has cedar wood outside --- tried to hang a flag on it but the wind ripped the screws from the flag base out of the board. I don't want to "split" any of the boards if I elect to hang something, or try to re-hang my flag. My greatest concern is splitting the cedar wood.
Make sure you use galvanized screws and nails, and always pre-drill your holes using a much smaller drill bit so you will not split your wood.
