I know exactly where your coming from. Auto Zone has ball joint press kits with various hardened steel press sleeves with a press insert that fits in the top and a mammoth C-clamp. The problem with this kit is the press rings is there often isn't enough clearance between the spindle and the top press insert and actual press sleeve. It's impossible to get a straight press. A company called OTC offers a much more complete set of press sleeves that will cover all ball joints.

Don't get tempted to allow someone to heat the spindle to press the joint in as the crush will be ruined and the ball joint will slip back out even with the big snap ring in the bottom.

Take the ball joint and spindle to your local Pontiac or Chevrolet dealer and let them press it in for you. They have the exact press sleeves to do the job. The OTC kit costs over $200.00 and you'll never use 99% of the sleeves that are in the kit!
