The Right Crossbow

When it comes to choosing the right crossbow it is very important to do a little research to make the right decision. Choosing the wrong crossbow could end up being a big mistake. Archers have the mind set faster the better but I strongly disagree with that. Maybe with a rifle that is true but not so with archery equipment. It only takes 30 foot lbs. to go through a deer.

When choosing the right crossbow there are a bunch of different factors that play into making the right decision. Everyone is different height, age, and physical ability if you choose a crossbow with too much draw weight you could end up really hurting yourself like tearing up your back or your shoulders. You need to choose a crossbow that is comfortable for you to cock.

There are a couple different cocking devises the crank type that you attach to the stock of your crossbow. And then there is the rope type that works by doubling the distance you have to draw and halving the draw weight but a short person may have trouble with this. Most accuracy problems with crossbows come from cocking the crossbows off center. Also forward weight in a crossbow can cause problems for people with upper limb problems or are wheelchair bound.

 There are many very good manufacturers out there a few of them are Barnett, Excalibur, Horton, Ten point and a few others. One thing about archery in general you do not need to have the best compound bow or crossbow made to be a very good archer. You can choose a crossbow that most importantly fits you physically and fits your bank account and still just be as effective as the guy who spends twice as much on their bow that has too much draw weight just to keep up with their hunting buddies.

The most important things once you choose the right crossbow for you is to invest in quality arrows it does not matter if they are aluminum or carbon. The only difference in the two is carbon has a slight more kinetic energy on impact. And probably the most important piece of equipment is your broad head. A good quality sharp broad head is a must. If you are cheap here it does not matter how good your crossbow is. 

Scopes If your state allows you to use scopes on your crossbow there are plenty of quality scopes out there. Once you get your set up together it is just like with anything else you need to practice, practice, practice, to learn your equipment before you take it out in the woods.

With a lot of states now legalizing crossbow hunting to everyone there will be explosion in the crossbow industry. And just like the compound bow industry you will see the crossbow technology grow better and better. They will be built with a lot less noise on release and built to be a lot more user friendly.  So get yourself the right crossbow and enjoy a great new way to chase your favorite game.
