how can i change the color of my full fiberglass recurve bow with out ruining my bow?
I have professionally painted a number of bows for several clients and did so using standard store-bought paints. I can find a number of suitable colors (even in Wal-Mart) at reasonable prices. I use only the satin or dull finish paints in camo colors to blend in with my environment and to keep down the glare and reflection of sunlight. The paint has no effect on the fiberglass bow and any time I choose, I can simply use a paint thinner like lacquer thinner to wash off the paint. After applying a scattering of base colors, I can lay a leaf, fern, or grass stem over the color and dust over the stencil with flat black to really make the camo pattern more realistic and detailed. I have used the method to camo everything from a 22 foot motor home down to knives, binoculars, etc. Just about everything in between that for hunting/fishing has been camouflaged in our shop. We are getting ready to do a 24' fishing boat. A bow will be little challenge for you.
