Blue's Clues - Blue's Big Musical Movie
Sale Price: $4.67

Join Steve, Blue and all their friends as they plan a backyard musical show! Preschoolers will help Steve and Blue get the show underway, write an all new song with G-Clef --the voice of Ray Charles, and of course, play Blue's Clues. In Blue's Big Musical Movie, preschoolers will sing, dance, play, and learn that they can be anything they want to be! Includes 6 Brand-New Songs!Promotes: Critical Thinking, Music, Curriculum including Notes, Rhythm & Tempo, Problem Solving, Confidence and Self-EsteemRecommended Ages: 2 years & up
Blue bounds into her first feature-length film ready to sing. She gets sidetracked along the way, of course, but that's part of the brilliant Blue's Clues formula. Each half-hour TV show presents engaging, easy-to-grasp mini-mysteries that are within toddlers' reach. This time Blue; her huge-eyed, slightly loopy human companion, Steve; and their cadre of talking-object friends are scurrying around, preparing for a backyard music show that day. Everybody picks a number to perform; Blue's is a duet with Tickety Tock, but the clock contracts laryngitis. Who will be Blue's new partner? A game of Blue's Clues reveals the hardly reluctant replacement. The standard discovery of three clues followed by the usual wind-down song would add up to a colossal disappointment in a feature film, so substantial rounding-out is provided. Steve stumbles onto a keyboard inhabited by a note called G-Clef (the unmistakable voice of Ray Charles), who gives a tour of how to make a song. First you pick the notes, then you work on rhythm, then comes tempo, and, last but not least, "you've got to give it soul." This movie's themes include perseverance (Tickety Tock can't sing but finds a way to contribute anyway) and self-empowerment. Blue's Big Musical Movie is a feast for little eyes and ears; the sets are so colorful they hurt grown-up eyes, and the songs--especially the one that gets the Charles treatment--are all sing-along-with-me winners. --Tammy La Gorce

Grab your sleeping bag and your favorite bunny slippers: it's time for a night-time game of Blue's Clues. Our moon-eyed (human) host named Steve and his frisky, animated dog named Blue have invited a crowd of their usual pals for a pajama party. While the format of this episode mirrors the other Blue's Clues shows, standard tunes such as "Mail Time!" and "We Just Figured Out Blue's Clues" are practically whispered so as not to disturb sleeping characters. Together, the very sleepy Steve and his cartoon friends identify nocturnal animals by their sounds and venture off to outer space as "pajamanauts" to discover why there's night. In a bonus episode titled "What Was Blue's Dream About?", the much more awake--but quaintly clueless--Steve works to decipher a number of characters' dreams. The helpful lesson to youngsters here is that they can change their dreams at will. Capped off with a glitzy disco tune called "It's Our Dream," Blue and Steve help Sleeping Beauty turn a nightmare into a rainbow-colored birthday extravaganza. As always, the funky cartoon world in which Steve and Blue conduct their clue finding stimulates the eyes--just as the wonderful variety of music stimulates the ears. A pleasing choice for kids in the 3- to 5-year-old range. --Liane Thomas

Steve's younger, and much taller brother is introduced in this pair of episodes, preparing the kids for Joe's eventual taking over of the franchise as Steve heads off to college. (And star-coproducer Steven Burns leaves the blue screen behind for the bright lights of Hollywood.) In "Joe's First Day," Steve follows the clues to find out what Joe (Donovan Patton) will bring for show-and-tell. In "Joe Gets a Clue," the passing of the baton begins as Joe learns the significance of a blue paw print, goes on his first skidoo, and is presented with his very own handy-dandy notebook by Blue. Much is made of the fact that the new notebook is shaped like the thinking chair; look for one in a store near you. Will the kids like Joe as much as their old buddy Steve? Well, Joe's got a different green shirt and more hair, but the same infectious enthusiasm. Ages 2 to 6. --Kimberly Heinrichs

The Shells Love Anchors Landing And Plantation Pointe On Lake Hickory, North Carolina
Shells Say: Put Your Money Into Real Estate!
Greg Shell is the prototypical home boy. He was born in Morganton and, but for a brief encounter with college life, has lived in this Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton triangle his whole life.
Now that's not to say that this successful orthodontist hasn't branched off into other parts of the country. In fact, he leaves the area quite often on important missions. Like when he went west skiing one time and met his wife, Anne. Anne was from Palm Desert, California, and he courted her and brought her home to, where else, "The Triangle!" And, he regularly flies his A36 Bonanza (single engine, seats six comfortably) to important places ... like, Tar Hell basketball games (at UNC, his alma mater).
But home is the Hickory area, where the Shells feel alive and Anne says she has grown to love. "Let's face it, I was more of a country club girl, you know, used to upscale, curbs, gutters, flowering plants by the road, this was a whole new world. But it has a wholesomeness that Palm Springs didn't have. And, in the last five years, we've got a wonderful new shopping center, a big discount store, a Kohl's ... and this is all just perfect for families, for our kids. 'When you need something, you can get it in 20 minutes. There are new restaurants, a great hospital... when you need access to something, you can get it in a flash."
That's probably why Reader

How do you cook precooked beef?
We just bought some precooked beef from Hickory Park for graduation and we need to know how to cook it.
It doesn't need to be cooked, just reheated. If it is sliced, a few seconds on medium in the MW will do nicely.
A chunk could be heated wrapped in foil in the oven on a moderate heat, or it could be eaten cold with chutney.
