The scale then makes its readings using laser-guided ultrasound. It's easy, clean, and extremely efficient. The scale calculates fish length from 5 to 60 inches and weighs (in ounces, pounds or kilograms) fish as large as 100 pounds, giving you plenty of wiggle room. And thanks to the corrosion-free, solid-state mechanism, you needn't worry about the device suffering a mechanical breakdown, as there are no moving parts. The user-programmable memory, meanwhile, lets you program the minimum and maximum weight and length for up to 10 fish species. Once the XP is programmed, the Auto mode compares the measurements of any fish you catch against the prescribed limits, then gives you a "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" icon. Other details include an embedded wax board and pencil that keep track of the memory programming; a Hold mode that lets you lock the display on the current reading while in a rocking boat; a tare feature that offsets the reading to zero to accommodate weigh bags or containers; a backlit, polarized LCD display that's easy to read even when wearing polarized glasses; and a laser pointer that shows where the ultrasound is aimed.
