Microplane 40020 Zester/Grater, Black Handle
For Grating/Zesting of Chocolate, Hard Cheese, Citrus Zest, Coconut, Ginger and Garlic
Blade made of surgical grade stainless steel. Plastic handle.
Dishwasher safe
Cover included
Made in USA
For fluffy, evenly sized cheese shreds, this is the perfect grater. Its design is based on that of a rasp, the small and efficient woodworking tool. The cutters are especially sharp, which guarantees easy grating. But this also means you'll need to exercise extra caution--no one likes grated knuckles. The large handle allows for a firm grip, and the completely flat grating surface makes it easy to move the cheese across the blades. Carrots, onions, and medium to firm cheeses all worked beautifully with this grater. It's also an excellent choice for larger strips of citrus zest or ginger. --Jill Lightner

After decades of being staples at flea markets and yard sales across the continent, the LPs Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass made in the '60s have been reissued with their original verve undiminished and sounding remarkably fresh. Taking things one step further is a new set of remixes. Those putting their hands are the faders include John King of the Dust Brothers, Mocean Worker, and Medeski, Martin & Wood. Alpert himself was an active participant in this project, adding some new trumpet solos amidst the snaky grooves and incessant beats. Not only will those familiar with the originals be dazzled by their transformations, but anyone new to these erstwhile million sellers will fall right in with the rhythmic drive and melodic hooks. --David Greenberger

Boskovsky's encyclopedic collection with the Vienna Philharmonic, recorded between 1957 and 1976, is as close to definitive as one is likely to get. There was a special camaraderie between Boskovsky and the Philharmonic--he was a member of the orchestra's violin section for 37 years and conducted their New Year's Day concerts from 1955 until 1979. There was also a special empathy that these performers, as custodians of a tradition going back to its origins, felt for the music of the Strauss family. It comes across quite wonderfully on these mid-price CDs, which have been painstakingly remastered for an edition every collector should have. --Ted Libbey

The Great Race

Kitchen sink comic salute to silent slapstick from Blake Edwards follows a pack of wacky racers, including stalwart hero Tony Curtis, dastardly villain Jack Lemmon, and femme fatale Natalie Wood, on a 22,000-mile road race from New York to Paris in 1908. Peter Falk, Keenan Wynn, Vivian Vance, Larry Storch and Ross Martin also star. 160 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French; Subtitles: English, Chinese, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai; "making of" documentary; biographies; trailer.
Director Blake Edwards, fresh from the success of the first two Pink Panther movies, indulged his love of classic slapstick comedy with this long free-for-all, which throws in everything but Laurel and Hardy's kitchen sink. The film reunites Some Like It Hot stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, ably aided by a spunky Natalie Wood. The subject is a New-York-to-Paris auto race in the early years of the 20th century, pitting the Great Leslie (Curtis), a goody-goody dressed all in white--even his teeth sparkle--against the malevolent Professor Fate (Lemmon), whose coal-black heart is reflected in his handlebar mustache. He looks like a bill collector from a silent- movie melodrama. Lemmon does double duty, also playing the pampered, drunken king of a small European country, whose laugh sounds like the wail of a cat in heat. The film may be too long for its own good, and you really have to love Jack Lemmon to put up with his over-the-top performance, but it's side-splitting in spots. It's one of those movies, if seen in childhood, that stays in your mind for years afterward. Some of the bigger routines, such as a pie fight of epic proportions, don't work as well as the simple chemistry between the perpetually exasperated Professor Fate and his much-abused assistant, Max (a terrific Peter Falk). Push the button, Max. --Robert Horton

More Info On Lemon Wood:

How to remove scratches from polished wood
It’s difficult to see your precious, beautiful furniture bear a scratch sometimes, especially because removing the scratch is not always an easy task. That said, you don’t really need to go to the extent of spending hundreds of dollars on your expensive furniture. The best way to treat the scratch is by removing it yourself. If you’re, however, not sure how to go about it, here are a few steps that you can follow and benefit from.
First up, you have to determine if the scratch is really on the wood or the polish. Sometimes, you may even find that the scratch is only on the wax coating and not on the wood itself. Removing scratches from the polish or the wax can be easier than removing the scratches from the wood.
While our next suggestion may seem pretty simple, it is definitely very important – clean your Wood Finish really well. If the scratch is on the wax finishing, using a wax solution will definitely help. The wax solution not only removes the scratch, but it also removes any kind of dirt and dust accumulated on the wax finish.
If these don’t solve the problem, you can even try purchasing a scratch remover from the nearest hardware store. Scratch removers are known to perform the task at hand quite well. Another handy home remedy for removing scratches is mixing vegetable oil and lemon juice together and then applying the mixture on the scratched surface. This can do the furniture some good as well.
Depending on what wood your furniture is made of, there may be different solutions to the problem. For every type of wood there’s also a corresponding home remedy available. You can just try searching for the phrase “removing scratches from polished wood” or “how to remove scratches from polished wood,” and you’ll find hundreds of results that will help you remove scratches from wood. So you always have the option to choose between professional services, replacing the entire furniture or furniture range with new ones, or just removing the scratches yourself. The latter, obviously, does seem like the easiest and most sensible option. Unless someone has already been looking at the option of replacing or exchanging their old furniture for new, they wouldn’t want to spend a bomb just because a few scratches seem to have appeared on the surface of the furniture.
Once you’re done with the scratch removing process, it’s time to stain and polish the wood once again, unless you’ve not really caused any damage to the stain and polish while trying your hand at removing the scratches from the wood’s surface.
If the wood requires staining, you can buy some stain that matches your furniture and the stain color around the scratched area. This is important because the new stain needs to gel with the old stain color to get that perfect, stunning look once again. While staining your furniture, you need to ensure that you use only High Quality brushes. This is extremely important to keep in mind. If the brush is not smooth enough, you may find brush marks on the polish after the stain dries on the wood. To avoid this, we advise that you use smooth, high quality brushes. In case, such a kind of brush is not easily available, go for some cotton as substitute. After the first coat, let the stain dry for enough amount of time before you go for the second coat. This will give your furniture a new, sparkling look.

Outdoor grill: Gas? Wood pellets? Charcoal? Other?
I've got a lousy gas grill, and need another. Or could I convert and just start throwing charcoal or wood pellets into the bottom of what I've got? - setting the coals in a tray?
My urge is to get gas again. But I really need foolproof and low maintenance - because my wife uses this and I can't keep her away from it and can't get her to take good proper care of it.
I don't know why the gas grill I've got won't work. I just changed the regulator because I thought that was it, but it isn't. (Worked great on first lighting... wouldn't start next day.) Or am I the fool?
Before this lemon I had a Charmglow that survived 20 years! I just replaced the burners every few years. So I think I know how to take care of these things.
Any suggestions?
Lots of good suggestions for breathing new life into your current grill. You don't mention how much grilling surface you need, but your comment about low maintenance brought the Weber Q to mind, should you decide to replace it.
They offer a number of models in various sizes, and since the design actually uses the shell of the grill as the surface on which to vaporize the juices (and create the grilled taste we all love), it's very easy to keep clean. We're into the second grilling season with ours and love it.
Great results have become pretty automatic. Heat it on high for ten minutes to get the grilling surface searing hot, then reduce it to medium for grilling things like steaks, burgers, boneless chicken breasts, pork chops, etc. For grilling times we use the cookout calculator at charcoalbob.com. Enter the details of what's grilling and it gives you instructions for how to grill things like steaks so that everything comes off the grill at the same time, cooked the way you want it.
My only question would be trying to reuse a gas grill with charcoal, since they are designed to work differently and it might be hard to get consistent results.
Hope you find a solution that will have you grilling again soon.
