does it make a difference with what size RAM modules you put in your computer?

I am contemplating whether i should buy a 2gb RAM module or 2 1gb RAM modules... i dont know if one would be better than the other.

Some motherboards require dual ram meaning paired sticks. Some motherboards only function well with better ram. If you have a choice and your motherboard is not picky go with the larger stick. Put the larger stick in the slot closest to the CPU. Please refer to your manual. Or tells us what make and model the computer or motherboard is/are.
