Make sure you have the proper angle. With a Diamond sharpener, the key is to start out with a little pressure, in a circular pattern. It won't take long to get the shape right. To get the ultra-fine edge, use less and less pressure. You'll end up not using any pressure at all, just the weight of the sharpener.
