How To Shoot a Bow – Basics and Tips
If you're a beginner shooting a bow is quite hard because archery or shooting a bow can make your arms become weary. You need to practice god posture and you need strengthen you arms. It may be hard, but once you know how to shoot a bow everything will be easy for you. Studying about the history and the basics of archery is also fun and interesting. Let's talk about the basics of archery first.
What is archery?
Archery is one of the oldest sports in history. Archery is also a skill and everyone can play or shoot a bow. Archery is played using a bow, arrow and a target. This sport or archery was also one of the skills used by hunters. Archery is used for combats too. Now archery is one of the outdoor activities and sports.
Here are some fun trivia I gathered about archery:
- Did you know that the archer's arrows travel 240 Kilometers per hour?
- Did you know that archery was first admitted or considered as a sport in 1900?
- Did you know that black and white is the standard color for field target?
- Did you know that most archers engrave their initials on their arrow?
Here are some basic steps on how to shoot a bow:
- Standing posture or stance – Archers should stand straight or unsloped. Archers should be in a comfortable and relaxed position. Your feet should be a shoulder apart to each other. You should keep even balance or weight on each foot and you need to keep your body steady.
- The nocking – Place the arrow on the arrow rest. Make sure that the index fletch or cock feather is facing your direction and the nock in on the bow string.
- Drawing hands and arms – Archers usually use three fingers to hold the arrow and the bow string at the same time. They usually use their index finger, second finger and the third finger. Form a hook using those fingers or use it to hook or hold the bow string. The nock should be one the middle of the index finger and third finger, while the fourth finger will just help your hand in supporting the bow string. While for the bowing hand. You need to curl your hand or fingers around it, you bowing arm should be straight and your hand should be facing against you, like you are pushing the bow against you.
- Drawing arms – The arm that is holding the bow string (drawing) should be raised or folded higher your drawing hands should be close to your face.
- The bow string should be touching your face or your chin/jaw.
- Targeting – You should point or move the sight pin (on your bow) to the target and you should also need to check the string alignment, it should be vertical or straight.
- The Release – Just let the string slip off your fingers. You should now move you drawing and bowing arms after you release the arrow. You need to be steady and maintain the balance or else it will affect the movement of your arrow. You need to wait until it reaches or hit the target.
You are allowed to rest and release tension for 20 to 30 seconds only. Archery is fun, I am pretty sure that you will like it too.

Rat drinking problem?
Just yesterday i got my rats a water bottle at Walmart. they are used to drinking out of a bowl, but they kept nocking their bedding into their water and i had to change their water at least 5 times a day... so i thought the water bottle would work. i put it in and i dont think they have touched it. whenever i squeze the water out, they come running to get the water.
Please help, how do i know if they've been drinking? Can i train them to use it? Is there hope?
thanks 4 any help... Miley <3
P.S... please no stupid answers like, "why do u have rats?" best answer gets 10 points!!!!!!!!!
You might try putting something on the end of the water bottle that they will lick off...then they will realize that this is where they lick the end to get their water. (use like yogurt...something soft that would stick). You can tell they are drinking by watching the water level on the bottle. When rats drink, you can usually tell the difference in water level.
