I want to stain one piece of wood two different shades. I was going to stain the light shade, then tape off sections to be stained a darker shade. Will this work, and will I get crisp lines? Any other ideas?

grit sandpaper that you use for your final sanding

The higher the grit the more you will close the pores of the wood slowing down the absorption of the stain which will allow you to have a cleaner line

You will want to run a credit card along the tape line to eliminate any chance for their to be air bubbles and to make sure its stuck well. remove the tape as soon as you have achieved the color you want and let it dry
