FFH built its foundation on an aggressive tour schedule, a commitment to sweet-sounding melodies, and a constant dedication to ministry. All three elements come to play on Have I Ever Told You, the group's third major-label release. They don't venture far into new musical territory, but FFH know what they do best: build concise pop around well-crafted harmonies. The opener, "Watching over Me," and the praise-and-worship anthem "We Sing Alleluia" capture this essence well. Producers Scott Williamson and David Hamilton don't mess with a good thing, though they do employ more keyboards and strings here than on previous FFH releases. The upbeat and playful "Astronaut" and the whimsical "Millionaire" are certainly changes of pace as well. But overall it's the tight singing arrangements and lyrics centered on one's relationship to God that placed FFH on the national stage, and they continue admirably in that vein on this pleasing release. --Michael Lyttle

Four years after "Jump"-ing their way into a hugely successful kiddie rap ride, it was clear the two Chrises who make up Kriss Kross (17-year-old Chris Kelly and 16-year-old Chris Terry) were only as young, rich, and dangerous as their writer, producer, and mentor, Atlantan Jermaine Dupri, wanted them to be. Still calling all the shots--even penning most of his young proteges' raps about themselves--Dupri's third Kriss Kross album attempted to lay the groundwork for the teens' entry into a prosperous hip-hop adulthood. Though Young, Rich & Dangerous offers a slim eight songs and only about a half-hour of music, Dupri makes good use of his time with a mellow keyboard-laced and bass-heavy groove so smooth it credibly recreates Dr. Dre and Snoop's original west coast G-funk with a (mostly) PG-13 attitude. A handful of the cuts, including the title track, "Live and Die For Hip Hop," and especially the hit party single "Tonite's tha Night," glide on the hooks and melodies created with help from Trey Lorenz's and Aaliyah's R&B vocals and guest-raps from pint-sized homegirl Da Brat. The boys of Kriss Kross do their part by delivering a postpubescent tag team flow that combines the swagger of youth with the surety of seasoned professionals. And with "Money, Power, and Fame" and "Hey Sexy"--two tracks the duo wrote, produced, and perform without Dupri's input--they even assert a small measure of independence. While Rowe is perfectly fine playing off his Brad Pitt looks with his Brad Pitt style of indifferent acting, Green turns in a disappointing performance. The stronger actor of the two, Green has been consistently good in movies (Austin Powers) and on TV (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), but for some reason this time he decided to overplay his nerd characteristics as if he were a reject from Weird Science. Then there's the plot. With its scams within scams within scams, logic soon flies out the window and the question of who's scamming whom is quickly replaced with "Who cares?"
