Canary has asthma, how to treat?

I have a female canary who is very active, has a very good appetite, (she's on an excellent diet of premium seed and washed vegs.) and will peep when I talk to her. The only problem is that I believe she has asthma. She tends to wheeze.

I really don't think that it is asthma, I have never really hear of a canary having asthma. (although just because I have never heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist)

It sounds like air sac mites to me. My canary started out the same way. He was very active, and was flying around, eating very well, both seeds, fresh fruits, vegetables, and egg food, drinking very well, and singing, (although a little less often) even mating with the female.
But he would be breathing a little harder than usual. He had tail bobbing when he breathed, and kind of wheezing.
Eventually, I noticed by the end of the night he was kind of slumping on his perch, not standing tall at all.

I recently took him to the vet and he had air sac mites. The doctor gave me a prescription that I had to use a tiny injection needle and carefully put it in his beak and inject it, without sticking him!
But... if you catch it early, there is an alternative that is suppose to work, I have just put on my female canary (they are contagious to other birds) to prevent her from getting them, and it is called "SCATT" you can buy it online, I haven't found it in any pet stores. You apply a drop to their skin under their feathers and it enters their bloodstream and kills the mites living in their air sacs.

I really hope that your canary is feeling better, problems concerning their breathing is very hard on them, birds defense is to hide their illness very well, because a weak bird is easy prey.
