While an automatic sprinkling system certainly ensures greener grass and nurtured flowerbeds during the sweltering days of summer, not every household comes equipped with such a system and they can be downright expensive to install. Historically, the alternative to the built-in sprinkler system has involved setting up a hose and sprinkler and then manually relocating the water source to several strategic locations every thirty minutes for several hours. Despite all the detail and time this manual system receives, the sprinkler never quite makes contact with certain patches. Likewise, swamping also occurs at times because homeowners generally have more important things to worry about than whether it is time to switch the sprinkler. Luckily, the folks at LR Nelson are employed to worry about finding comprehensive watering methods for busy homeowners who don't have the means, time, or desire to dig up the yard to install and intricate system of sprinkler pipes. Responsible for a bevy of creative lawn care solutions, the Peoria, Illinois outfit introduce this ingenious Raintrain traveling sprinkler. With a rustproof cast iron construction, the sprinkler waters up to 13, 500 square feet, though covering a lesser area of 11,9000 square feet ensures more effective performance. The sprinkler arms adjust for varied spray patterns and arcs, throwing water from 15 to 56 feet. The sprinkler waters as it travels along a hose on a preset route, much like an electric model train, except with a hose as the rails. To water, the homeowner lays out the hose as desired, taking care to avoid dramatic corners or turnabouts that may result in hose kinks or a derailed sprinkler. A front wheel runs on the hose with the two traction-ready rear wheels bestride. The hose connects to the posterior of the sprinkler. For the best results, LR Nelson recommends a 5/8-inch hose, though a 1/2-inch hose may suffice, up to 200 feet in length. The life of Bethany Hamilton, a promising amateur Hawaiian surfer who overcame a crippling shark attack at age 13 to succeed on the pro circuit, would likely make for a compelling, inspirational cinematic experience even if it consisted of a voice-over recounting her story on a blank screen. The actual film may stay firmly within the standard safe sports underdog movie guidelines (complete with a sneering nemesis clad in a black wetsuit), but Hamilton's incredible strength and spirit still manage to shine through, aided by a terrifically appealing lead performance by AnnaSophia Robb. Beginning with a montage establishing Hamilton's lifetime love of the water, the film quickly focuses on the strong ties with both her family (including her parents, here played by Dennis Quaid and Helen Hunt) and community (personified in Carrie Underwood's youth minister) that aided in her recovery from tragedy. Director-cowriter Sean McNamara, a television veteran, gives the images an appealing, natural sheen, but unfortunately proves less successful at illustrating the depths of his main character. Throughout, Hamilton comes across as more of an idealized, selfless saint than a real person learning how to cope with such horrendous trauma, which is a particular shame, considering how good Robb is during the few moments when she's allowed to show frustration. She does her real-life inspiration proud, even if the film surrounding her sometimes feels overly scrubbed. --Andrew Wright

If you are looking for a challenging workout that will get you toned and sleek while offering great cardio, Xtend Barre Lean & Chiseled is the routine for you. Led by the very inspiring Andrea Rogers, a dancer who incorporates ballet, Pilates, yoga, and traditional workout moves, Xtend Barre Lean & Chiseled is appropriate for all fitness levels. Beginners always have a way to modify the moves, and experts can leap and bound to their hearts' content to add challenge. And Rogers's routines are quite precise and will give results if done regularly. The arms segment, for example, is just 11 minutes, but even if you do the moves without weights, you will feel your triceps and shoulders burning in that good way. Like all good exercise instructors, Rogers urges one or two more sets of repetitions than anyone would be inclined to do on her own--and the muscles feel the difference. To do the routine, you need light weights. And Rogers is serious when she says "one-, two, or three-pound weights," because five-pounders are almost impossible to use for all the reps she presents. The exerciser also needs a regular household chair, the back of which is used for balance. Rogers's routine also focuses on the all-important (and often overlooked) importance of balance, which will further help engage the core. Extras include a slight bio of Rogers, as well as previews of some other workouts distributed by the manufacturer. But Xtend Barre Lean & Chiseled is simple, challenging, and adaptable to any fitness level, so can be an excellent go-to routine for virtually anyone. --A.T. Hurley
