Ridge preservation with Acellular dermal matrix (AlloDerm and AlloDerm GBR) as a membrane prior to dental implant placement. A human and histological study.
Sale Price: $69.00

Background. Ridge preservation is a goal many dental practitioners find desirable after the loss of a patient's tooth. Acellular dermal matrix (ADM) has been used in ridge preservation, however it has yet to be determined whether thickness of the material makes a difference in regenerative procedures. Methods. Seventeen sites in fourteen patients were evaluated in a randomized clinical trial. Group A (ADM GBR) had 8 sites and group B (ADM) had 9 sites. Phase I consisted of tooth extraction and ridge preservation with autogenous bone using ADM as a membrane. Phase II surgery consisted of implant placement. A core biopsy was obtained from the osteotomy site. Soft tissue and bone measurements were made. A students t-test was used to analyze the results. Results. Connective tissue and epithelium thickness gained a mean of 2.5 mm from the facial aspect for group A and a mean gain of 1.83 mm of soft tissue thickness for group B. Bucco-lingual dimension resulted in a mean loss of 1.25 mm for group A and a mean loss of 0.33 mm for group B. Apico-occlusal dimension resulted in a mean loss of 0.88 mm for group A and a mean loss of 0.72 mm for group B. Differences between groups were not statistically significant for any measured parameters (p = 0.05). Conclusions. Acellular dermal matrix thickness of 0.5--1.6 mm used as a membrane with autogenous bone in ridge preservation reduced alveolar ridge resorption after tooth extraction to allow dental implant placement without further grafting.

How Well Do You Score?
How Well Do You Score?
Your custom catalog printing is not finished until you hear the fat lady sing…or for this case, when you’ve applied your finishing touches. Unless you’ve done your folding and creasing, only then can you say that your print catalogs are ready to be shipped out.
But for those of you who are not very familiar with the printing process, it takes more than simply folding your pages in your custom catalog printing to finish the job. There’s more to the folding process if you want to have the perfect finish to your print catalogs. And in many folding methods, you need to know more on how you score.
Scoring is part of the whole finishing process. It is a method of putting that perfect crease onto the paper so you can easily fold your pages. As you know, it puts great pressure on the paper when you try to fold your pages. This in turn will result to a crack in the fold itself. Hence, a score is needed to avoid having that noticeable and unattractive defect in the otherwise perfect marketing collateral. You can see what this means when you find out later on that the ink spreads are everywhere in your collateral. So before you fold, you need to score first.
There are many ways for you to apply the score in your custom catalog printing. Here are the most common methods you can apply to your print catalogs:
Litho Scoring is an on-press process where you use a rule supported by a cylinder. Although it reduces greatly the chances of cracking in your folds, not many printers use this method for scoring. Many find it difficult to adapt to the score rule as it often moves and bows, which makes it very hard to achieve top quality print jobs. If a printer is used to handling the scoring rule’s shoulder then the tendency for the fold to crack is quite minimal.
Letterpress Scoring in contrast is the most effective method as it can eliminate cracking totally. A platen or a flat-bed cylinder letterpress is used to provide a ridge onto the paper. Then either a male die along with a matrix set is applied, or a scoring rule and channel creasing matrix is used to finish with a more accurate and High Quality score.
Next is the Rotary Scoring. It is a method which involves a scoring wheel, which is especially effective if you’re trying to locate the best place to apply your fold in your print catalogs. However, rotary scoring is not that effective when it comes to preventing the occurrence of cracking. If you need to make a proper score, it is more advisable to use a metal rule instead.
These are a few of the scoring methods you can use for your custom catalog printing. Just remember that no matter what score you apply, make sure that you consider the width of the score, as well as ensure that the hinge is always found inside the fold.

What causes fingernails to develop 'ridges and valleys'?
One thumb nail looks like it has a deep valley running across it (it's growing out). Some of the others look like they're too low in the moon area. I tend to pick my cuticles and maybe I did some damage by scraping near the matrix, but I'm wondering about deficiencies, side effects of medicine, etc. Do you have, or have you seen this problem?
I've heard a few things about that:
1. could be an injury; did you injure/bump it in some way? Is this ongoing. If you stop picking at it, will it go away?
2. Vitamin deficiencies. Are you low on iron or other vitamins. Go to your yearly physicals to rule those things out and always take at LEAST a multivitamin daily. B complex vitamins (mainly biotin) are for hair/skin/nails. Get a bottle!
3. Are they moisturized? Get some nail cuticle oil. No you don't need to spend a lot of money, but you can try rubbing jojoba oil into your cuticles and nail area every day.
4. A disease, have you ruled that out? Thyroid disease; I've noticed others with thyroid problems describe this. Diabetes, maybe, too. Like I said before get your regular yearly check ups and if you suspect thyroid or diabetes, get checked for those, too.
Good luck!
