I've always wondered why the Quadruplex videotape recording format was the most prevalent form of VTR recording for commercial television and local TV stations for so long, even after helical scan recording became a viable option? Was quadruplex that much better than helical-scan for commercial TV, seeing that 'Quad' VTR's could sometimes be really cantankerous if conditions during recording or playback were not 'just right'? I've read some of the things that could and DID go wrong...but I guess the industry wanted to stick with 'what worked' for them..
