ok with shrink tubing for wire splicing?
i'm splicing some wires for my CD receiver in my car. I want to put shrink tubing on the wires but i don't have the heat gun... is there anything I could use that is typically laying around the house that I could use?
keep in mind its in my car so it has to be some what portable...
You can carefully use a cigarette lighter. Move it quickly along the length of the shrink tube. You may need to rotate the wire to be sure to evenly apply the heat around the tubing. Start with short time exposures to the heat until you get a feel for how much heat you need. Be aware of your surroundings, remember that heat rises!
