Altius: On Air Extreme Sports 2 [VHS] Altius: On Air Extreme Sports 2 [VHS]
Sale Price: $37.99

The First World Air Games, held in Turkey in 1997, offered extreme air sports enthusiasts the opportunity to compete in airborne activities of every thrilling variety. The event, which included over 3,000 competitors from 75 nations, is documented in the multivolume Altius series of films. Altius is the Latin word for higher, a fitting title for documentaries filmed, for the most part, thousands of feet in the air. Volume II of the series is divided into four distinct categories of competition footage--formation skydiving, hang-gliding, paragliding, plus a segment that focuses on highlights from some of the myriad events of the games, such as ballooning and aeromodeling. The coverage is thorough and informative (novice air sports fans will be surprised at how much is technically involved and how many rules can be injected into these seemingly simple activities), and, despite its low-budget videography, the camerawork is visually exciting. The four independently directed segments, while doing a good job of maintaining their focus on the separate aviation sports disciplines, occasionally appear a bit disjointed and inconsistent. For example, viewers are introduced to the World Air Games an annoying four times throughout the film, and one of the segments, when showing an awards presentation, honors the third- and first-place finishers of several events while inexplicably snubbing the second-place winners (perhaps a nationalist bias?). All in all, however, this film series presents a comprehensive overview of this unique competition and will perhaps explain why "only skydivers know why the birds sing." --Ed Noble

Filmed in September of 1997 throughout various parts of Turkey, Altius documents the first World Air Games, a multi-sport event involving various air sport competitions. This second episode includes Formation Skydiving, Hang Gliding, and Paragliding.

Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is a first- and third-person tactical combat game set in 1985 detailing a fictional conflict between NATO and the Soviet Union. As a soldier fighting against the Soviets, you're on the frontline of the conflict and charged with a number of missions, including sabotage, recon, combat, assassination, and fending off enemy attacks. The game is very successful in its approach, but stumbles when it forces you to play vehicle-only missions where you control a tank, an attack helicopter, or an A-10 tank killer. Over the course of the game's 50 single-player missions and campaigns, you'll assume several combat roles, running the gamut from a grunt armed with an M-16 to a tank commander commanding an M1A1 Abrams tank into battle. The bulk of the game consists of you tromping around on foot in first- or third-person mode, and those missions are a great deal of fun. Firefights are intense, chaotic, and often confusing, and they capture what it must feel like to be an infantry soldier caught in a battle. In addition, the included multiplayer mode is a lot of fun, although it can lag at times. Getting used to the controls can take awhile, and will definitely be a hurdle for folks used to the simple keystrokes of most action games. Everything is handled in a realistic manner: standing from the prone position takes a few seconds, the sight on your weapon bounces around as you move, and you can hear your soldier's labored breathing when you sprint across open ground. In fact, you can only sprint for a short distance before tiring (and slowing), which encourages players to make short advances from cover to cover--just like a real soldier. Even the gunfights are realistic: instead of the extreme close-quarters combat and bright crosshairs found in most action games, Operation Flashpoint challenges you to line up a faraway, crouching soldier in the fixed iron sights of a real-world rifle. Successful missions earn a promotion in rank for you and the men under your command; controlling your squad is simple and straightforward and involves just a few keystrokes. On the downside, the difficulty with the complex controls is compounded a million times when you play as a tank commander, where you must issue move and fire orders to the rest of the tank crew. These missions are very frustrating, especially because you can only save once per mission. Because of that, you'll find yourself replaying the tank missions again and again and again. Operation Flashpoint sports a decent graphics engine that is capable of rendering massive and realistic outdoor areas. These large areas really make you feel like you're part of a huge battlefield, complete with forests, scrub, and dozens of vehicles and soldiers. The price you pay is in the form of blocky player models and pixilated plants. In addition, graphical glitches, such as soldiers' heads being on backward, rear up from time to time. Fans of quick-twitch games such as Quake III will probably be turned off by Operation Flashpoint's realistic gameplay and slower pace. Everyone else will find an exciting, engaging, intense cold war combat game. --Kilmic Robbins Pros: Intense action Decent AI Multiplayer is a blast Realistic combat Accurate representations of 1980s military technology Cons: Vehicle-centric missions stink Control takes some getting used to Only 1 save per mission

Painkiller Painkiller
Sale Price: $6.00

Painkiller is a first-person horror shooter designed to satisfy the gamer's hunger for intense fast-paced action. You are Painkiller a mercenary for hire charged with cleaning out nests of the undead. But an unholy pact with a demon unknowingly puts you square in the middle of a fight for control of the underworld... with the future of humanity hanging in the balance.System Requirements:OS: Windows 98\ME\2000\XP CPU: 1 GHz Intel Pentium III or AMD Athlon processor RAM: 256 MB CD-ROM or DVD-ROM speed: 4x Hard Drive space: 1.2 GB available Video: 32 MB Direct 3D compatible video card Sound: DirectX 8.1b or better compatible sound card Input: keyboard and mouseFormat: WIN 98ME2000XP Genre: ENTERTAINMENT Rating:  UPC: 625904391506 Manufacturer No: PC39150MB

When it comes to first-person shooters, there are two schools of thought. One harkens back to the original Doom--frantic action, scary monsters, big weapons, and story is given short shrift. The second school is best exemplified by Half-Life: strong narrative, consistent real-world weapons, consistent monsters, and settings. Doom's heirs up until now have been Quake and Serious Sam, but now Painkiller comes onto the scene leaving bloody footprints, and … let the carnage begin! You play a man who dies in a pathetic car crash (he's distracted because he's holding his girl's hand) and has spent a long time in purgatory. He thinks this is unfair because, despite being well-schooled in the art of killing, he maintains that he's done nothing wrong. Heaven makes a deal with him. Take care of a little invasion problem concerning Hell, and our hero can enter those pearly gates. Weak storyline aside, Painkiller basically amounts to a brilliant series of arcade-style levels and challenges. The settings include darkened monasteries, graveyards, a horrifying asylum, a medieval town under siege, and even H-E-Double Hockey Sticks itself. The level design is brilliant, varied, and jam-packed with enemies. There seems to be no end to the amount and variety of cool monsters to fight, and they each explode into chunks of blood and gore in a most disturbingly satisfying manner. At the end of each level is a challenge, such as collecting a certain amount of gold or killing a Boss within a time limit. Winning the challenge gives you tarot cards you can use to make the game easier. The different cards bring haste, double-damage, invulnerability, and so on. This simple mechanic makes the game far more replayable than your average shooter. The graphics are first rate, which means you need a powerful PC to run the game with all the detail settings maxed out. The only other problem is a CD-copy protection bug that makes the game unplayable for some (a patch is available). Painkiller may seem a bit silly at first glance. But the gameplay mechanics, replayability (full multiplayer is also available), variety, and brilliant level design make it one of the finest and most satisfying shooters ever made. -Andrew S. Bub Pros: Superb gameplay and game balance Excellent level design Strong replayability Cons: Poor, unnecessary storyline High system requirements Problematic copy protection

SYSTEM SENSOR BEAM1224S S.SENSOR 4-WIRE BEAM W/INTECLE SYSTEM SENSOR BEAM1224S S.SENSOR 4-WIRE BEAM W/INTECLE
Sale Price: $749.38

System Sensor Model BEAM1224 is a four-wire conventional reflected beam smoke detector, which is uniquely suited for protecting open areas with high ceilings, where other methods of smoke detection are difficult to install and maintain. It is to be used with UL Listed compatible control panels only. An advantage of this single-ended reflective design is that it is much easier to install than the dual-ended projected beam detectors. Alignment is quickly accomplished via an optical sight and a two-digit signal strength meter incorporated into the product. Another advantage of the BEAM1224 is that it is listed for operation in temperatures ranging from -22??F to 131??F. This means it can be used in open areas to provide early warning in environments where temperature extremes may exceed the capability of other types of smoke detectors.

Kabul - Extreme Tourism

Ancient monuments for which so tourists are eager, at first sight in Kabul it is a little. However at more close acquaintance with a city here will be both ancient monuments, and sights, not considering 583 mosques, 38 Shiite prayful houses, Hindu temples and Christian churches, and simply beautiful corners of this ancient city.

Trading heart of Kabul — prospectus Maivand named so in honour of battle at the place with the same name near Kandahar where in 1880 defeat utterly the English forwarding case has been broken. In memory of this victory on the prospectus the cone-shaped tower directed upwards which openwork wings are finished glaze by tiles rises.

Near to prospectus Maivand markets about which it would be desirable to tell especially long since settled down. For example, the name of one of them — Charms-chats («Four arches»), and actually is the whole labyrinth of very narrow small streets and lanes. Thousand people filling him at once speak, argue, bargain, upraising hands to the sky and pressing them to heart. Only sellers of fabrics — Sikhs — silently sit, having drawn in feet, near to mountains of colour silk, rolls of a heavy velvet and easy brocade in which it is possible to dress all Kabul.

On other market mountains of water-melons and bags with rice rise, and nearby is damp radish and carrots bunches sparkle.

But the king of the Kabul markets is Mindai numbers dukans, benches, shops and little shops, masterful, tea and shashlik houses last how much the sight suffices. Here trade in all: meat and a flour, leather products and hand-made articles from a stone; in show-windows and on counters — lighters and cologne, edges and transistors, cigarettes and buttons, there and then hang sheepskin coat, and nearby on the earth teapots, frying pans, basins have settled down...

Knowingly Kabul joke. «If you have found on Mindai any thing, means, it does not exist at all in the world».

Against a noisy trading city silent fortifications with the big rough teeth and blind apertures of loopholes are especially allocated. That clambering upwards abruptly run downwards, the wall lasts over Kabul on a crest of ridge Sher-Darvaz. Have published it can seem even toy, however the wall height reaches seven metres, and its thickness at the basis — not less than four metres. Thanks to so impressive sizes this fortification also has remained, though has been erected in V century.

It is a little below it, at east spur of a ridge, other fortification — the Ball-gissar citadel Under the legend, here during ancient times incarcerate the national leaders rising against the power of emirs rises. This terrible construction ????????? to Afghans good service and during their struggle against Englishmen.

The British armies have grasped Kabul in September, 1879. The history has kept many certificates of their cruelty and vandalism, yes they and not especially hid it. For example, officer Grinvud wrote, that it with the ????? has blown up market warehouses and has set fire to a city in several places at once. When for other day Kabul included other groups of English armies, they have completed begun, have destroyed and have burnt all city. In a citadel of Ball-gissar Englishmen have built the gallows in the form of a circle which named «a death roundabout»: on it simultaneously executed on some tens persons.

Now Kabul is Syn a city. Along with the narrow small streets intricately winding on slopes of mountains, here it is possible to see and samples of architectural skill of the Afghani architects Argue with blueness of the sky turquoise domes of "the Shahsky mosque», under the legend, named in honour of the Arabian commander who battled against enemies at once two swords.

Old part of Kabul — the most noisy. Together shouts Here merge invited, messengers of coal, water noses, a deafening ringing mallet chasers, lingering howls of vagrant dealers. Shrill shouts of the donkeys who are furiously urged on by drovers continually rush into this many-voiced noise.

There are in Kabul streets where the whole quarter it is possible to go on carpets which cover the earth before dukans. Set of feet months ruthlessly trample down a crimson fabric which from it becomes even brighter. The wool yarn for the Afghani carpets becomes covered by the paints received from roots of a madder, and these paints do not fade even through hundreds years.

The new city which has settled down on a left-hand side of the river Kabul, has absolutely other appearance in which the European influence is clearly traced. Here it is a lot of gardens, street — direct and wide: in this part of Kabul there are palaces, foreign embassies, the ministries and other government agencies of Afghanistan. Among themselves both parts of Kabul — old and new — are connected by bridges.

I've seen this asked before but in all seriousness what is the fear of extraterrestrial life called?

For as long as I can remember I've had an irrational fear of extraterrestrials. Whether they exist or not, the sight of an alien in a movie such as Communion sparks extreme fear and I'm left scared out of my mind for hours if not days. Many people find it humorous but it isn't any different than a fear of insects and is a very real fear. I have never been able to find any information on this rare(?) phobia.

Fear of extraterrestrials could fall under the category of
Xenophobia. defined by the American Heritage Dictionary as
NOUN: A person unduly hateful or contemptuous of that which
is foreign; especially of strangers, foreign people or strange
things.
