what size of bow to buy?
hello im trying to buy a bow, but i dont know which size or anything.
i want a composite and a traditional bow, can you tell me which size to buy?
i weight 58 kilograms (128 pounds)
my height is 1.73 meters, the conversion is this: 1.73 m = 5.67585 '
OR 5 ' and 8.11 "
I'm putting it like that because i didnt understand if its 5.67 feet or 5'8 feet.
im like normal strong, not anything out of the ordinary, so which size should i get for both kinds ?
I'm not gonna use it to hunt, just to entertain as a hobby.
my arm span is 1.69 meters
my draw length is 26 and a half
not composite sorry, compound.
If you're not hunting, then comfort comes to the top priority. The length of the bow determines how comfortable it will be to pull and shoot. Now, 1.69m arm span by the rule of thumb will turn out to be a 26-27" draw length. At that draw length the bow you'll be comfortable with should be around 66" for a recurve.
Your strength usually plays very little into the weight of the bow. Because normally, unless you're a rock climber or a rower, you don't use the muscles used in archery. People who are strong tend to use the wrong muscles when they get bows that are too heavy, and develop bad habits. Poundage wise, ideally you need to start with around 20-25 lbs. The only reason to get anything heavier than that is if you need to shoot from far away, you need to hunt or you compete in field tournaments. A 20lbs bow shot with perfect form, from about your draw length with good well tuned carbon arrows can reach a target 50m away with no problems.
Ah, compound, with a compound you can push the envelope a bit. A good starter compound can be around 40# and for shooting just for fun, that's all you really need.
