Presto 04820 PopLite hot air popper
Sale Price: Too low to display
|
|
|
Plug in Presto's PopLite and the party begins. In less than 2-1/2 minutes you'll have up to 18 cups--two large bowlfuls--of fluffy popcorn with virtually no unpopped kernels. And because the machine uses hot air instead of oil, the resulting snack is healthier and lower in calories. That's not to say you can't add butter; in fact, the 1/2-cup measuring cup on top of the popper doubles as a butter melter. Simply put in the desired amount of margarine or butter (room temperature is best), and it melts from the heat produced during the popping process. The clear plastic cover and cup, which must stay on during popping so the popped corn doesn't fly all over the room, easily remove for hand cleaning with warm, soapy water. No other clean-up is required. While a few unpopped kernels spring out the chute as the machine begins to heats up, the chute does a good job of directing the popped corn into a bowl. The popper measures 14 by 9 by 6-1/2 inches, and is identical to Presto's Orville Redenbacher Hot Air Corn Popper except for color and logo. Presto covers the PopLite with a two-year warranty. --Ann Bieri

Little Voice

CD > BRAZILIAN MUSIC > MPB - BRAZILIAN POPULAR MUSIC
For many listeners, Little Voice will be their first exposure to this soulful singer/songwriter, but it's actually Sara Bareilles' second record. Her first, the self-released Careful Confessions, led to a deal with Epic. Since then, Bareilles has opened for Marc Broussard and Maroon 5. She's also become a bonafide soundtrack queen with tracks featured in female-centric films Girl Play, Loving Annabelle, and Monster-in-Law. As with her out-of-print debut, the UCLA grad wrote every song on her first major label recording (Little Voice features re-worked versions of several demo numbers). Like the portrait on the back of the CD--Bareilles in strappy black dress and lace-free high-tops--the piano-playing chanteuse combines the sweet with the scruffy. While her jazzy pop melodies are radio-ready, her relationship-oriented lyrics can be unexpectedly salty ("Bottle Up" and "Come Round Soon" wouldn't pass FCC muster). A little profanity here and there, however, doesn't indicate tough-girl attitude--Amy Winehouse can rest easy--so much as a desire to express herself freely. As Bareilles explains in "Love Song," "I'm trying to let you hear me as I am." (Not surprisingly, her degree is in communications.) Fans of Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keyes will find much to like here. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Dark and sinister is the new sexy, thanks to Dexter, which in its second season has proven to be the most successful series Showtime has offered up yet. Remember how much you squirmed in your seat during the season one finale? Believe it or not, the premiere of season two felt like it could have been a season finale--because jaws were on the floor when the credits rolled. For being a supposed sociopath, Dex is pretty broken up about the gruesome events that concluded last season. The one and only person who could possibly understand him is six feet under, and it seems our unlikely hero is losing his homicidal grip. He's even having a little trouble slicing up a few of his latest victims (from a murderous gang member to a chainsaw-wielding fiend from his past). Enter Lila (Jaime Murray, Hustle), a lady with a sweet British accent and a few dark secrets of her own. She seems to accept Dex for who he really is, and he finds himself feeling relaxed for the first time in his life. In contrast, his relationship with his girlfriend Rita (Julie Benz) has been stretched almost to a breaking point. The problem is, he should be anything but relaxed. Someone picked a poor place to go scuba diving off the Florida coast, and came across an underwater graveyard: Dex's primo spot for dropping dismembered bodies wrapped in heavy-duty trash bags. Word about the "Bay Harbor Butcher" gets out quick, and the F.B.I. sends the best of the best, Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine, Deadwood) to work alongside the police to sniff out Miami's latest serial killer. This guy is no schlub, and Dex may have met his match. And, yes, Dexter gets to work with Lundy on a daily basis, which provides some wonderfully awkward moments. It certainly doesn't help that the intuitively paranoid Sergeant Doakes (Erik King, Oz) is hot on Dex's trail. Season two of Dexter is all about decisions. Lila or Rita? Old code or new code? Run or fight? Right or wrong? Well, one thing's for sure: When it comes to writing, casting, acting, and production, the makers of this show made all the right decisions. Michael C. Hall is simply superb as the title character. You'll never find yourself more willing to genuinely root for a serial killer. It's bloody liberating. --Jordan Thompson

Invasion - The Complete Series
Sale Price: $6.88

|
|
Following the success of Lost, Invasion was one of numerous sci-fi-themed shows that debuted in the fall of 2005. But unlike Threshold and Surface, Invasion had the distinct advantage of airing in ABC's slot right after Lost, at 10 p.m. on Wednesdays. Created and produced by Shaun Cassidy (yes, the former teen idol who also produced American Gothic), the series starts in a flurry with a devastating hurricane threatening a Florida city and a 21st-century family happens to be in the middle of it. There's park ranger Russell Groves (Eddie Cibrian) and his wife, Larkin (Lisa Sheridan), who's an inquisitive television reporter. Living with them is Larkin's no-account brother, Dave (Tyler Labine), who blogs about conspiracy theories and aliens while between jobs. Also living with them some of the time are Russell's kids, Rose (Ariel Gade) and Jesse (Evan Peters), who also spend time with their mother, doctor Mariel Underlay (Kari Matchett), who has also remarried, to the town's sinister sheriff, Tom (William Fichtner). Tom also has a child from a previous marriage, sexy teen Kira (Alexis Dziena). Amid the chaos of the hurricane, little Rose is the only one to notice a group of strange lights dropping from the sky into the water, then Mariel disappears only to turn up in a swamp the next morning, seemingly unharmed but now with a strange affinity for water. Not so lucky is Dave, whose investigation of Rose's colored lights leads to the discovery that those lights have a pretty fierce set of teeth. And what does the sheriff have to hide? Parts of Invasion feel like The X-Files or 24, and obviously the central concept isn't new, but it has enough revelations and spooky chills to keep the viewer coming back for more. Unfortunately, even the plum slot following Lost wasn't enough to keep Invasion from being canceled after its first season. The problem is that the season--and the series--ends in a whopping cliffhanger, which may never be resolved. So before you invest yourself into a full season of Invasion, be warned. --David Horiuchi
After a monstrous hurricane devastates a small Florida town, a quarantine order from the sheriff and the strange events that follow suggest to a local park ranger that a dire--and possibly alien--new threat was left in the storm's wake. Eddie Cibrian, William Fichtner, Tyler Labine star in this darkly suspenseful 2005-06 sci-fi series. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital Surround stereo; Subtitles: French, Portuguese, Spanish; deleted scenes. 22 episodes on 6 discs. 15 hrs.

More Info On Small Black:

The Yorkshire Terrier is one of the most popular and lovable breeds in the world. Also known as the Yorkie, this wonderful little dog originated in Northern England, where it was intended to hunt vermin, such as mice, rats and other rodents. A small terrier could easily hunt down these pests in the mine shafts and mills. Their keen ability to hunt made them very popular for finding other animals, such as foxes and badgers. It appears that the Yorkies were cross-bred from various terriers such as the Skye Terrier, the Manchester Terrier as well as others which produced the the long-haired variety we generally associate with them. The breed was originally quite a bit larger than the ones we see today, and was down-sized in the selective breeding to obtain the smallest size possible, genetically.
Although the Yorkshire Terrier is indeed a terrier, it has become more of a fashionable breed for ladies to carry in a designer bag, and such. The American Kennel Club "AKC", has the modern Yorkie classified with the Toy Group and you will find them at the various dog shows under that category. The AKC first recognized the Yorkie in 1885.
Description: The Yorkie is considered to be one of the smaller dogs in the Toy Group. It has a flat head on top, a small black nose and small dark eyes. The judges at the shows will be looking for teeth with a level bite and erect ears which form a "V" shape. Many times you will find the ears floppy, because of the breeder's lack of know-how in getting them to stand up. The legs should appear straight when viewed from the front. The feet should have black toenails with removed dew claws. The tail is standardly docked (at 3 days) and higher than the back. While tail-docking is illegal in much of Europe, it is customary in the US. The Yorkie is well known for its lovely shiny coat of fine silky hair. They don't shed as much as many breeds, so they are sometimes chosen for hypoallergenic reasons. They generally have either a silver, blue or black coat after their puppyhood coloration of black, tan or brown. The hair on the dog's head is usually tied up to keep from getting into the food and water dish and to show off their lovely faces.
Maintenance: The Yorkshire Terrier should be groomed every 3-6 weeks and combed (or brushed) daily or up to once a week.

You Can Have Any Color As Long As It Is Black
Henry Ford in 1922 was quoted as saying about his Model T Ford "the customer can have any color as long as it is black". Today we smile at this, and say of course this doesn't happen today ... but it does!
Smart businesses know that often their product may be substantially the same as in previous years, but they still need to create some sort of difference to encourage buyers to purchase their product. Often this difference is in packaging or colors.
Take a look at the car industry, where the body shape and engine may not change from year to year - but what does change are little things like the paint color or the interior trim shading.
Mindless consumerism maybe ... but what about businesses that don't change their product from year to year? Those who don't look at the markets they may be missing out on by rigidly and doggedly staying with what they know.
One of the classic cases I use as an example was the mobility industry - wheelchairs, hoppers, walkers and walking sticks. Until approximately 2 years ago you could only by these things in hospital silver. If you were lucky you could find a wooden walking stick, but that was it.
Why? Because it was always done that way. Did the customers want it - no! Just because they have a mobility issue doesn't mean they have suddenly become blind to color or lost their personality. But they were stuck with those choices.
Now you can buy wheelchairs in all sorts of great colors, hoppers with jelly bean prints or rose patterns and even walking sticks in any hue. But I have still to see any business really maximise this trend.
Could you imagine being the only mobility store in a city that ONLY stocked colored or printed equipment (no silver in sight) - I suspect the sales results would be stellar.
Or a mobility boutique that stocked a brilliantly colored children's range for children with disabilities - a niche that is not well served at present.
Could you imagine marketing walking sticks as a fashion accessory in ladies fashion boutiques that target the older generation? None of these are currently happening - all are wasted opportunities for enterprising small businesses.
Now I have you thinking - what else could benefit from thinking beyond the "any color as long as it is black" approach.
Take a look around your office and you will see your office littered with black or silver equipment. Printers, computer boxes, faxes and keyboards - all black and silver. Until 18 months ago laptops were only silver or black until some enterprising businesses realised there was money to be made in purple, blue, pink, green and other great colors. These are still the minority - but they are rapidly moving in on the technology market.
Laptop bags are still generally black - although you can find the rare on-line boutique that sells fashion laptop bags that are both stylish and functional. These have not yet become mainstream - you have to search for them.
Try and buy a mobile phone these days and you are still only met with lots of black and silver (with the odd bit of pink thrown in). You can find some red mobiles aimed at teens, but very little at the stylish end of the market.
With the changes to manufacturing techniques smaller runs with a wider range of colors are now becoming viable. But big companies are slow on the uptake. This is where small business can come into its own.
If you are looking for a great small business idea or niche market - start by looking around you. What presently is only available in a small range of colors? Why? Are there different colors available? What can you do to either dominate the color market or at least make color a feature.
For computers and office equipment, could you set up a "color your world" part of the store where all of your colored laptops, phones, printers, laptop bags were on display in one place?
What product lines could be added to your current range that logically could produce add-on sales? If you currently design business clothes - could you design a laptop bag in the colors of the season to match?
Color is an important part of life. It is also a business niche - what are you doing to maximise your color niche?

How can I get rid of Black small mosquito looking pests in my birds cage.?
I have a millitary macaw in a large cage inside my house and I went out of town for the weekend and when we came back there was a million of small (tick looking)flying black pests in his cage. They migrated to my pantry, we cleaned out the cage and the pantry and thought they were all gone, until last night we come home and they are in his cage again. Same food (frozen 3 days before we give it to him from the store). He doesn't go outside.
We have a Scarlet Macaw and the only time we get those bugs is by letting his cage get too dirty! Now once you get them they move to your drains and breed! So you need to put baking soda and vinegar down all your drains including all sinks, tubs, showers, washer machine. Just pore some baking soda down the drain then add vinegar slowly it will bubble up does this several times down each drain and it should take care of your problem, without being toxic to your bird!
Hope this helps,
Tammie
Black Bloc Taints Anti-Olympic Movement
by Doug Ward The performance of the anti-Olympic protest movement over the past two weeks bears resemblance to certain Canadian skiers who over-reached, lost their form and crashed. The shambolic and small group of black-clad anarchists who threw a newspaper box at the downtown Hudson's Bay Co. store on the first day of the Olympics -- shocking Olympic revellers queuing for fuzzy red mittens ...
