Grilling is one of the easiest ways to eat healthier; fats and oils drain away from foods, and flavor is concentrated by the high heat. The George Foreman G2 is a freestanding, countertop combo grill and griddle that offers year-round, indoor grilling. Not only is the G2 great for grilling burgers, chops, and sausages, but it can also make crisp grilled cheese or panini-style sandwiches. The flat griddle accommodates eggs, bacon, pancakes, or hash browns--an ideal brunch station. Both griddle and grill are nonstick, which means even less fat is needed. The variable temperature knob--marked for minimum, medium, and maximum temperatures--easily adjusts to any temperature at or between those settings. The grill surface is tilted very slightly down toward the front; the removable drip tray fits under the front grill edge to catch any excess fat that drains away during cooking. An accompanying heat-resistant spatula is safe for use with the nonstick surfaces; use only soft utensils such as nylon or wood. Safety features include a stay-cool grill lid handle and nonskid rubber feet. The accompanying spatula, cleaning tool, and removable drip tray are dishwasher safe. Let grill and griddle cool completely before cleaning. To preserve the nonstick coating, do not use steel wool or other scouring pads on grill and griddle, and avoid abrasive cleansers. Use soft-bristled cleaning brushes to help clean between the grill ribs; the enclosed cleaning tool is also designed to fit between the ribs for loosening food buildup. The Hot Spot is best known to lecherous film buffs for Jennifer Connelly's topless scene, but this sultry southern noir deserves more than prurient interest. It's arguably Dennis Hopper's best directorial effort (OK, so that's not saying much), and Charles Williams's source novel Hell Hath No Fury finds Hopper in a comfortable B-movie milieu, riffing on Double Indemnity with an overripe tale of sex, greed, and blackmail in an unnamed Texan town. Fresh from the final season of Miami Vice, Don Johnson stars as a shifty drifter, conning his way into a salesman job on a used-car lot, where the boss's insatiable wife (Virginia Madsen) offers him sexual favors and a lovely secretary's (Connelly) innocence is threatened by a percolating scandal. Nobody's really innocent, of course, and Hopper spices this languid web of secrets with enough trashy misbehavior to qualify The Hot Spot as a bona fide guilty pleasure. --Jeff Shannon

Amazon.com Review: A family film for an era when "family film" means scatological jokes, gratuitous violence, and shapeless storytelling, See Spot Run is about par for the course. Punctuated by many a lowbrow moment (scenes of combustible zebra flatulence, for instance), Spot has trouble staying true to its major story line despite the latter's redeeming qualities. That story concerns an FBI-trained bull mastiff who flees the wrath of a mobster (Paul Sorvino) and ends up in the care of a pooch-averse postman (David Arquette) and the latter's little neighbor (Angus T. Jones). With a nutball like Arquette in the lead (and vigorous support work from comic Anthony Anderson of Me, Myself, and Irene), the antics come fast and furious, including a wild bit of slapstick in which Arquette simultaneously gets his head stuck in a fishbowl and his body densely wrapped in helium-inflated plastic. On the other hand, there's a touching simplicity to the relationship between man and canine, each of whom has been terribly lonely in his own way. Sure, the filmmakers went for some cheap laughs, but there is much else here that is harder-earned. --Tom Keogh

You know the one about the group of horny kids who get offed one by one? Yeah, so do director Jaume Collet-Serra and his screenwriters, who have updated an old Vincent Price flick and sandwiched it between hearty slices of The Blair Witch Project and various Friday the 13th films. Lots of WB and Fox network hotties--including 24's Elisha Cuthbert, One Tree Hill's Chad Michael Murray, and, well, Paris Hilton--have car trouble and stumble onto a town populated by real killer personalities. The R-rated result is fairly gruesome and, though no one ever quite looks frightened enough, Collet-Serra knows his way around a jolting suspense sequence or two. Cuthbert and an unintentionally funny Murray (striking ludicrous poses as some kind of real toughie) act more like angry ex-lovers than the fraternal twins they're supposed to be; Hilton acts bored while her real-life video scandal is exploited for ironic kicks; and the film heads shamelessly over-the-top with each new twist. As an exercise in bloody mayhem, it has a few novel touches, but you can easily find better scares. --Steve Wiecking
