Why are my guitar strings brown/copper?

I just noticed today that my string is brown, more specifically, the 2nd and 3rd frets of the D string. The rest of the strings are, well, normal string colors, but is it normal for it to be brown? What is this caused by? Is it because that I got this guitar somewhere other than the United States [Got mine in Asia...heh.]?

Your strings are having a chemical reaction to your fingertips. If you got your guitar is Asia, it MAY have cheaper strings. All in all though, when the discoloration sets in it is a good idea to change them. You will be much happier with the sound and the feel. If you play a lot your strings will really only last a couple months top. If you REALLY play for hours a day most guitarists will change strings every month or few weeks.

EDIT: If you put rubbing alcohol on your strings you will risk drawing out the oils that are needed in the fingerboard. No offense, this is not a good idea. When you change your strings oil and clean your fingerboard before you put on your new strings.
