Yoga Postures - Dhanurasana, Bow Pose
Meaning of the word Dhanurasana, a Sanskrit word, is 'bow-shaped.' While doing this asana, the posture of our body looks like a 'Bow.' Thus it is named so.
Method of doing Dhanurasana is as under.
- First of all unfold your Yoga net on the floor and lie down on your stomach.
- Now keeping the palms upward, just position your chin on the floor. Then start bending your knees towards your body and finally grab both of your ankles with respective hands.
- Here the real Dhanur-asana starts. Keep inhaling slowly and try raising your knees by pulling the ankles with your hands. Simultaneously try raising your chest above the floor. When you can not inhale more, hold it.
- Once you tilt your head backward, your body would come in a 'Bow Posture'. You can hold your body in this posture as long as you can. For the beginners, it would be advisable to keep for ten to thirty seconds.
- To get your body released from this asana, do all the things in reverse order.

Should I increase my truss rod if it is bowing up?
I have a seven string guitar and my band plays some lower stuff. I have my guitar tunned to a full step down (lowest to high A-D-G-C-F-A-D) and I have noticed from my earlier practice today that my neck seems higher than the rest of the guitar. I can describe it as "bowing" up from the neck. Should i increase the truss rod tension or decrease it?
Well, reduced string tension should require less corrective force from the truss rod, so if your guitar was properly adjusted at first, I would decrease the tension to bring the neck back into balance with the strings. However, it sounds like your guitar was not very well-adjusted to begin with, so I would apply more force to the truss rod until the "up bow" of the neck is corrected.
Just be sure to do it slowly. Adjust 1/4 of a turn at a time at most, and wait a day between adjustments for the wood and strings to settle into a new balance of neck bow and string tension.
