Safety Tips from the Minister of Defense
Greetings from the Minister of Defense. With the holiday upon us, it is a great time to stress the importance of increased awareness! This is the time when bad guys and gals, evil doers, and predators look for people who are easy targets! It is our intention to make everyone more pro-active and aware, and not victims during this holiday season.
There is an email going around that bears repeating because it involves great tips on personal safety! This is information you want to pass to your loved one and other people you care about.
- The elbow is the strongest part of the human body. If within range, do not be afraid to use it!
- If a mugger asks you for your wallet or purse, do not simply hand it to them, but, rather you should throw it in another direction away from you. If they are interested in the wallet/purse, they will pursue it! THEN YOU SHOULD RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!
- If you should get put into the trunk of a car, kick out the tail light and stick your arm out the hole and get some attention. Now cars come equipped with an escape latch you can pull on to release the trunk. Do not forget to look for that.
- Stay focused on your mission. Do not get to your car, get in and then start doing other things, like your checkbook, or your make up. The bad guy/gal is watching you and this would be a perfect time for them to take advantage of your lack of awareness and get in with a gun to your head! AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO THE CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE. If someone is already in the car, DO NOT DRIVE OFF!!! Instead, put the pedal to the metal and crash into something. The airbag will save you while the other guy will get the worst of it, especially if they are in the back seat. This option is better than being found by police in a remote location after being rapped!
- Use your vision to look around your car and underneath your car too. If next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger side. Most people with evil intentions will attack women while getting into their cars. If something feel not quite rite about the cars or people in the cars next to yours, then turn around and go back into the mall or where ever you came from and get someone(police officer) to escort you.
- Stairwells are notorious for people waiting to attack someone. The elevator is a better choice. Especially at night. It is always a good idea to have a Kubotan or pepper spray accessible in close quarters like the elevator.
- If they have a gun, that does not mean you are under their control...RUN!!! They will have a harder time hitting a moving target than one standing still! Be sure to run in a zig-zag pattern.
- Do not fall for ploys like people tying to get you to feel sorry for them. It may be an attempt to lure you into a compromised position. You remember Ted Bundy, the serial killer right? Enough said.
- Do not fall for the scams. Some will try and get your front door open by recording a baby's crying to get you to open your front door and investigate. JUST DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOOR!
- Some have been turning on people's water faucets to full blast so the home owner will get up and turn it off! Again, DO NOT OPEN YOUR DOORS!

What can we do to stop the propsed bill introduced by Sen. Ted Stevens. Phone and cable companies that want to charge websites for faster content delivery. This could be the tip of the iceburg paving the way for higher fees, censorship and an establishment of Big Brother controlling the net. Right now I think all we can do is contact our own Senators and other Senators on the Commerce Committee.

Something Extra
Lagniappe's diverse Cajun gumbo has a completely unique musical flavor In Cajun/Creole culture, "lagniappe" generally describes a tip for services rendered or additional items given to a customer in appreciation for a transaction. But the literal translation of the French-derived word is, as drummer/percussionist Yvan Verbesselt notes, "something extra, something special." That's precisely what ...
