It is the Tie That Binds: the Saturn Multi Rib Belt

Underneath the hood of a Saturn, one may easily examine all the complicated tasks of the engine and all the other components that work together to run the car. The Saturn Multi Rib Belt, also called as serpentine belt, uses multiple Vs for more positive contact with its mating pulleys. Its purpose is to provide power to engine-mounted accessories such as the power steering pump, air conditioning compressor, mechanical cooling fan, and air injection pump. Responding to the continuous usage of multi-rib drive belt systems, torque transmission has developed this new line multi-rib pulleys and drives.

The Saturn Multi Rib Belts feature lengthwise groove that provide drive-by adhesion. Compared with conventional belts of the same width, these belts optimize the contact area while increasing power transfer. The thin cross-section profile allows for use with smaller pulleys than standard V-belts. The drive width can be reduced because of the increased surface engagement, which increases horsepower per inch of belt width compared to standard V-belts. The Saturn multi rib belt are available for different pulleys and drives in a wide variety of materials as well as standard sizes.

It has been a fact that multi rib belts could only last for four years, or 50,000 miles. Belt slippage usually occurs due to low tension, wrong belt, or grease/oil. Inspect the belt closely for any cracks in the ribbed area, and also, check the backside of the grooves, fraying, or splitting. Though the random cracks across the ribs signals normal belt wear, it is a good move to take a replacement. In any case, one must be keen in having Saturn Multi Rib Belts installed in his car. is there any way to make polyester stretchy? If I put it on top of something stretchy such as ribbed combed..?

...ribbed combed cotton or spandex, then sew the two together would that make my original fabric more "stretchy"?

If your polyester is a woven fabric it will stretch a little bit if you cut it on the bias (if you have a square of fabric the bias is a 45 degree angle from the center of the piece or if you draw a mental line from one upper corner to the lower opposite corner). It will still not stretch as it would if it had spandex or if it were a knit but it will drape & move better on the bias.

No fabric you can put over the top of it will change the actual stretch of the fabric beneath.

Sewing on the bias can be tricky but w/some practice & patience you'll become a pro!
