More Info On Turkey Hunting:

When starting out turkey hunting you must first decide on what kind of weapon and what gauge you are going to use. Make sure the gun is sufficient for turkey hunting. Also make sure the gun is sufficient for you as well. You don't want a gun that is to heavy or something you can handle.
1. When you start to sight in a turkey gun I would highly recommend you start with a light load of 7 to 8 shot and at about 15 yards. Also start by shooting at least 3 shots at different targets. These shots will tell you if your gun is shooting straight, right, left, high or low without the fierce pain of the 3 or 3.5 inch shells. Once you have established your gun is shooting dead center, and then we go to the accessories.
2. If possible you need to get a few different choke tubes for your shotgun because each choke tube will shoot different. It will take several shots from each tube to determine which one patterns best.
3. Then you need to determine what size shell your going to shoot 3's or 3.5 inch shells or are you going to try both sizes to see if one shoots better than the other. Remember these shells can run about 8 dollars for a box of 10.
4. To start out you will need several different brands of shells in several different shot sizes. You will have to try each brand and each shot size with all of the different chokes to see which brand and what size shot patterns best for your gun. This can be a very time consuming task at first but trust me the pay off for that big tom will be well worth it. Also don't be afraid to use some shoulder protection against the vicious recoil of the turkey guns.
5. Take the time to evaluate each shot and record the data on the sheet. Put what size shell, what brand, shot size and the ounce load you used. It takes at least 5 shots or BB's in the vitals to effectively kill a turkey. So keep track of how many shots are in the vitals and at what yardage.
6. As you narrow down what ammo and choke tube is giving you the best pattern start backing up 5 yards at a time until you no longer can put a sufficient number of BB's in the vitals. The most important part of turkey hunting is to know you guns limitations and don't exceed the range you a comfortable with and confident at.

4 Turkey Hunting Tools You Must Buy
Turkey hunting includes more than just stepping into the woods and bagging some birds. Much thought and preplanning must go into the hunt. While what the hunter considers to be at the top of his supply list depends on his preference, there are a few things that every hunter must have to ensure a safe and happy hunt. Having the right equipment is vital.
1. Camouflage. Having the right camouflage can make or break a hunter's trip. Picking out the right camouflage will greatly depend on the location and time of year the hunter will be after his prize. Most hunters prefer to have two sets of camouflage clothing; the customary green for the spring hunt, and brown for the fall. A hunter should never underestimate the turkey's keen eyesight and ability to spot the smallest flash of color. When choosing hunting apparel though, be sure to avoid any colors often associated with turkeys, such as white, red, or blue.
2. Calls. While mastering a turkey call takes a lot of patience and practice, it is well worth a hunter's time and effort. Calls are the number one tool a hunter can use to bring turkeys into the area. There are a few things to keep in mind though when using a turkey call: don't overuse it; it doesn't take much for a turkey to grow tired of calling. Also, don't start out with an aggressive call, this can run birds out of the area instead of bring them in.
3. Decoys. While not every hunter uses decoys, they can be a great asset if they are realistic. Used in conjunction with the call, a hunter has a great chance of bringing in a flock of birds.
4. Blind. The last thing that's essential to any turkey hunt is the use of a hunting blind. Turkeys have keen eyesight and the slightest movement can ruin a hunter's chances. If he's not willing to spend a lot of money on a man-made version from the store, he can go au natural and construct his own using natural vegetation of the area.
As with any hunt, be sure to exercise extreme caution and utmost safety. Many hunters have mastered the turkey call, so always be sure that what is heard and seen is also identified. While turkey hunting has always been thought of as an extremely challenging hunt, with a few tips in mind, the hunter can get ready for a great season.

Would a ground blind be good for turkey hunting?
I hunt in New Jersey and was wondering if i should invest in a ground blind for turkey hunting.
What kind of blind should i get brand and model. Thanks for the help.
Justyn, I like the double bull blind. I believe the matrix. I know it is a little bulky and hard to set up by yourself, but once it is up and you are in it, there is plenty of room. You are not mobile though, so you will have to scout very hard to pick out the perfect spot to place the blind. You will not easily be able to move, so scout scout scout! I prefer blinds when I am bow hunting, but when hunting with a shotgun, I prefer to be more mobile.
Turkey season around the corner
Turkey season is just around the corner and if last season is any indication, this spring could be another record breaker. Over the last decade or so Michigan has climbed the ladder to become one of the premier turkey hunting states in the U.S. In 2009, Michigan hunters followed up 2008’s record harvest with another great season, moving Michigan into the upper echelon of turkey hunting ...
