Do You Have The Mindset For MLM Success?
I was like most Network Marketers, I made my warm market lists. I contacted each and everyone telling them I'm involved in the greatest business with the greatest product. Have you heard that before?
Hitting your warm market first will definitely test you to see if you have rhino skin. I hit every negative response or objection possible. I was able to sponsor a couple of people through trial and error, but nothing else took place. My hopes and desires of becoming successful in network marketing were dying.
I was thinking It was my company. So like a horse that I was, I went to another company. I was thinking, "The grass should be greener here." Well it may appear to be greener but you still have to mow it!
I was a struggling newlywed trying to make ends meet. My job was building semi-trailers. The pay was crap and the hours were long. I would wake up at 5:30 AM or 3:30AM if I had overtime. The alarm clock make me sick. The appartment we lived in was almost bare. We had a bed, a desk, a table, some folding chairs, and some ripped couches. That was it. Oh, and a TV.
I used credit card to mail post cards. This is what my upline was doing. I didn't know any better.
My business started to take off. I was actually sponsoring people into my business. I was beginning to think that I made the right move. Then Murphy showed up. My whole downline died in on sweeping blow. What happened? I was devastated to say the least. Here is the break down on what took place.
· I had a bunch of pebbles in my downline. (The time consuming, do nothing, wannabes)
· I had a few twisters in my business. (Sales types, only carrying about the sale)
· I had sod relocators in my business. (An upline that wanted greener grass)
· I was missing a weather vane in my business. (Very little training, upline support, or direction on what to do)
I had no foundation! I built my business on sand. I was literally missing the steel, wood, and cement to hold up my business. I decided I had enough. Here was my dilemma: I knew that this industry works! I had the network market bug. I made money. I couldn't deny that.
Later in my life, I was introduced to another network marketing company from my old sponsor from the previous company…. I know, I know, I know…
"Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me!"
I first daughter was born with Cornelia Delange syndrome at this time. She contracted R.S.V. after being home from the hospital for only 2 weeks. She ended up with a tracheotomy and a three-week stay in the hospital during Christmas time. I needed income to cover her expenses.
I jumped back into MLM again. I was fortunate to meet some real leaders in this company. I learned a lot of valuable information and created some wonderful friendships. One top earner in particular took me under his wing. He taught me a valuable lesson; A lesson that could have saved my first business from the beginning.
He told me this, "Its all about the attitude you carry with you and the relationships you build." People know if you have their best interests at heart or not! What I learned was the Law of Attraction even though I didn't know it at the time. "If you really want something and truly believe it's possible, you'll get it."
I attracted the wrong prospects. I sponsored people I attracted. Remember the pebbles in my business? Well, I attracted them. The reason was I had a low CASH level.
CASH means:
· Childhood
· Attitude
· Self-esteem
· Hobby or Business
I was subconsciously projecting a low CASH level. I was living from my past. I started network marketing when I was 15. Kid's can be harsh! I was missing the rhino skin. I was a sheep following the herd instead of being a leader. My self-esteem was low. Deep inside myself, I wondered, "Who would listen to me?" To put the final nail in the coffin, I treated my business as a part-time hobby.
I have this posted in my bedroom to remind me about having the right mindset.
" Whatever it is you are feeling is a perfect reflection of what is in the process of becoming!" The didn't have the right mindset.
I felt timid, shy, and uncertain about what I was doing so I attracted the timid, shy, and the uncertain. I sponsored whoever would sign up in my business. I treated my business like a hobby. I was literally sabotaging my success.
What about the twisters my sponsor place in my downline? This twisters sponsored people that did absolutely nothing. People do not like to be sold and this shows why you should never sell people into your business.
The top leaders are not salesman. The top earners are teachers, coaches, mentors, and homemakers. What do all of these professions have in common? "People that have YOUR best interests at heart."
Mindset is a must.
I approached people saying something like this, "Bob, can YOU DO ME A FAVOR?"
I was projecting a sense of desperation. No one wants to be with a desperate person. This projection also created pebbles in my business.
I need the mindset that I'm doing them a favor.
I would phrase it way, "I'm going to DO YOU A FAVOR and give you access to some information."
Was I desperate in my words? Would a leader say that? What if he answered,"NO"? Move on. You are a leader! Attract leaders: not pebbles! How do you avoid attracting pebbles?
It's really simple. You need a lot of prospects in your pipeline. You need the feeling of abundance. You should have 20 to 50 new leads each and every day to work with.
Do not waste your time sponsoring pebbles.
Remember that you are the C.E.O. of the company. Treat it that way! Attract leaders in your business. Professionals are hired based on their credentials and the job interview. Interview to find the right people. Have a C.E.O. Mindset and you will be successful in your MLM business.
