How do you play power chords where you skip a string in the middle?

So I'm new to playing the guitar and this may be a really stupid question but how do you play power chords where you skip a string in the middle? (i.e. http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/m/misc_soundtrack/pirates_of_the_caribbean_-_hes_a_pirate_acoustic_tab.htm in the intro after the notes on the 5th fret of the A string where it then has the 7th fret on G and the 5th Fret on A.)

that is not a power chord it is an octave. When playing this octave shape you simply let the index finger touch the string in between thus muting it.
Index plays the root note and mutes the next string, ring plays the octave note. This is a very common technique and is also movable all over the finger board.
