Halo Wars Preview

A myriad of real time strategy video games from Company of Heroes to Lord of the Rings have dominated the market. When gamers think Halo, they think first person shooter. Halo and real time strategy were never synonymous until now. Halo Wars is Bungie Studios’ first foray with the Halo franchise and real time strategy, and the game is a prequel to the original Halo on the Xbox. It takes place two decades before the heroic Master Chief fired endless streams of ammunition at the Covenant forces. Halo Wars seems to have everything that will appease real time strategy fans. This includes developing strategies to give players advantageous tactical situations. For instance, having higher ground on your adversaries will definitely bolster your chances of winning the battle. Utilizing the terrain is just the tip of the iceberg. Generating a well balanced attack is an immensely proficient method to eradicating the Covenant. Taking only one group of troops will be a disastrous blunder. Thankfully, Bungie Studios has implemented features that will please avid Halo fans. In Halo Wars, gamers will be able to use a Wolverine, a rocket-launching tank, the Scorpion, and the notorious Warthog. Of course what would a Halo video game be without the Covenant spraying you with needler ammo. Gamers will be seeing countless needler fire being shot all over the battlefield. Many skeptics (including me) believe in the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” philosophy, so why would Bungie Studios make a Halo video game that fits the real time strategy genre? Is it because Bungie Studios is making Halo Wars to make money off the Halo label, or is it because Bungie Studios wants to make a stellar video game? I doubt Bungie Studios would make a video game just for the hell of it; furthermore, I want to believe that Halo Wars will be as engrossing as the previous Halo iterations. If a Lord of the Rings real time strategy video game can be made on the Xbox 360, then there is hope for Halo Wars. Halo Wars is exclusively for the Xbox 360, and the game is slated for a 2008 release date.

what do you think......?

.....will be Michigan's record half way through the 2008 season? Here's what their schedule looks like in the first half of the season:

-Utah Utes
-Miami (OH) Redhawks
-at Notre Dame Fighting Irish
-Wisconsin Badgers
-Illinois Fighting Illini
-Toledo Rockets

5 of Michigans first 6 games are at home, and the Wolverines have a stretch where they play 3 straight games at home. Their one road game in the first half of the season is against Notre Dame, a team that perpetually sucks and whom Michigan will destroy.

This is a terrific way for a team with a new head coach to start a season. What say you?

Here's what I think.

Utah: Originally I was calling for a loss, but now I call for a toss-up. Utah is a better team than their record indicates, but Michigan wants to prove that they will not start dropping their openers.

Miami of Ohio: Michigan will win this one by margins beyond blowout. I see Michigan beating the Redhawks by a score of something like 77-14 with a 49-7 halftime lead or something like that.

Notre Dame: I expect them to make a bowl this year, but that doesn't mean they'll beat Michigan. I expect the Wolverines to win this one by two touchdowns, not a blowout, but a convincing win. Possibly three touchdowns or more if Jimmy Clausen throws some interceptions.

Wisconsin: I know you think they'll lose to Wisconsin, but I think Wisconsin is a little overrated and will disappoint again this year. Michigan wins this one on a late field goal. Also you get these guys at home. Should be a fun game to watch, but I pick Michigan to win.

Illinois: I think these will be the guys that hand Michigan their first loss. Should be a great game, though, but Illinois might take a step back from last year.

Toledo: Michigan wins convincingly, but it's a little closer than people predict. Score might be something like 27-10. Not bad, but not great, either.

I think that Michigan has the potential if they beat Illinois to actually go 6-0 before their first loss to Penn State, and a later loss to Ohio State. If everything lines up right for them, the Wolverines could go 10-2 and make the Rose Bowl or be an at-large team. But I say 9-3 or 8-4 is more realistic.

Your strong point will be your defense. I see Michigan possibly being a team that doesn't allow more than 28 points from any team all year. The offense is what will be the real question this year. It's a young offense with a new offensive line, so that might lead to some low scoring games combined with a great defense. You'll be like the 2004 Penn State Nittany Lions, but with a better offense, winning more games.

Mind in the gutters
From chicks in chain-mail bikinis to musclemen in tights, from the Tijuana bibles of old to the latest panty-flashing fan service in Japan, sex and comics go together like a complete lack of social skills and comics. So here’s a brief roundup of some notable comic book hotties – according to me.
